New Mustang production starting in January!!!!?

While the largest car company in the world says it doesn't have a small RWD platform for "our" pony car.....the current buzz is that '05 Mustang production will begin next Jan. That's 6 months away folks.

Don't have info on that, but, supposedly Ford will get the tooling in October and '05 Mustang production will begin after the Christmas shutdown.

Sound's about right, though I'd expect some vehicles to be assembled earlier than that.

Most new assembly lines do production prototype runs to test & make sure the assembles cars hold up as intended, & to identify problems with the line before regular production starts.

The cars are due out in April (like I always said) and Ford is going all out on ensuring Mustang like the new F150 has a smooth and trouble free launch.

Well, that info's not exactly going to be posted for public viewing, but it does take a few months before regular production for training line workers, and it's going to take some time to evaluate the cars comming off the line before regular production begins. Also, manufacturers try to get a couple of months of production before a new car is introduced, so January sounds dead on for Mustang's production startup.

As for Mustang's introduction, last January Ford said Mustang production would begin within 18 months, and it's no secret Ford wantsit out in time for it's 40th.

Yeah, on the showroom floor by April seems to be the goal.

Also, the GT (GT-40, not Mustang GT), will have a hp boost to 550. This probably leaves room for a 500hp Cobra.

Well Ford is moving production of the Mustang from Dearborn to Flat Rock. This will allow Ford to work for several months on the new 05 MY Mustang before production due in late 04. While still building current style Mustangs in 04 at Dearborn/Rouge asm.

On a side note the new plant in Dearborn- Ford's Heritage plant on the Rouge complex will be done within the year for F150 production to ramp up. Rumors are that the new F150 and the current style will both be built until the new one catches on. Like the 96-97 F150's in the current style.
The F150 is Ford's most valuable vehicle and they don't want to mess it up.

What do you think the prices for the 2005 Mustang will be?

$25,000 for loaded V6 coupe?
$30,000 for a loaded V8 GT Coupe?
$35,000 for a loaded V8 Cobra Coupe?

I would assume the Ford will not offer any type of incentives of rebates on these since they will sell like hotcakes for the first few years for sure.

The only words on the base 6 are under 20k.As low as 18k.
NOBODY can speculate how much the others will be.But depending on what the bean counters let into production (meaning horsepower) the TOP Cobra will see close to 40k.But with that your talking 500hp...:cool:

While technically the base price of a v6 2005 Mustang might be under $20,000 but you wont see a base/strippy v6 or v8 stang for at least a year or two. By the time they start making base v6 stangs the suggested retail price would most likely be over $20,000 by then.

Call it clever marketing:D

As far as Cobra goes.....if they have two versions....the "standard" normally aspirated 400 hp version should cost about the same as a current Cobra. If they release a S/C, supercooled, 500 hp Cobra, expect to pay $40K++.

hmmmm..not retro,i guess the horse in the grill,side scoops,tri-taillights,long hood,short deck,twin pod dash(which looks more stingray than classic mustang),not to mention the mach 1 with its shaker hood and '60s style stripes,whew,i sure i am glad the current car has no retro cues:rolleyes:

I'm going to call "BS" on this one - I've got very good information that says they're only in the DV (Ford calls it "CP") prototype phase right now. While there is going to be some overlap of DV and production tooling kick-off due to Ford's slow start on this project, I seriously doubt that they're going to start cranking these things out in another six months. Then again, I could be wrong - I don't have anything to do with this program.

unless I can get a 450HP GTO for the same price

I for one will pay off the Grand Am and if there is a god, maybe by 2006 when thats done I can get my '07 Camaro...its amazing I have to pray to get the car I want made, yet for Ford and import owners it comes along without even needing to ask...

Isn't that really something?! As a GM fan, sometimes I feel that I am trapped in some sort of disfunctional consumer relationship.

Usually the "seller" will stand on his head to entice the "buyer" to buy.

We seem to be in the unusual position of actually begging the seller to give us something to buy.....and the seller refuses.

So when can we see pics of the actual production version? I know it can't be too far off, but i'm very curious as to how it looks.

Any words on whether the Cobra will have a N/A option as well? I remember a BON interview long ago on the 03 Cobra, and some Ford Exec mentioned the possibility of selling the S/c engine alongside the N/A one on the upcoming Cobra.

Just like the concept, but with different taillights, a fake gas filler cap in the center, less severe wheel lip creases, and uncovered rear side windows. ;)

I don't mind the side/hood scoops (gotta admit, they look good), but the fake gas filler is going way overboard:o. That, the mustang doesn't need.

J Mays is on record as NOT liking any fake doo-dads. We'll see what's on the production cars.

The old rumor was that the 2005 Cobra would get a DOHC 5.0L V8 400HP (which Ford sells a create version of) , but since the concept had a S/C 4.6L I bet the Cobra will have that too.

The Cobra "could" have a engine option.It was on the table.The "Big Dog" Cobra will be a 500hp 5.4 DOHC S/C..There are "rumors" of the 5.4 being of the 3v S/C variety.But no info has come of that just yet.:bow: :bow:
