Best set of plugs and wires that won't break the bank?SpidermanForever 06-01-2003, 04:25 PM Going to do a plug and wire change . They fall off under heavy load (5k rpm or better)... then you don't have the advantage of platnum anymore, and worse yet, you have a monster gap all the sudden. The only plugs I know of that have pure platnum electrodes, instead of discs, are Bosch platnums. I have the regular Bosch platnums in mine, set at .040" gap, and am very happy. The car smoothed right out and it aided a KR problem at the time. They have been in place for a year now without issue and I have gone to 28 mpg on the highway. Part of my good mileage came from my FRA mod as well IMO. The MSD wires are decently priced from large online sources like Jegs, they also are supposed to have far less resistance than any other brand. I want to go with the MSDs on my next plug change... Definately when I get headers. The stockers are pretty good, but can't take the heat of headers. Good luck Dave Btw: The purpose of platnum is that it wears very slowly. Therefore the gap doesn't widen over time like standard plugs, and they are useable much longer. The stockers are platnums, that is why it is said that they last 100k miles. GM doesn't tell you though that high rpms/high load will knock off the platnum nubs and ruin the plugs. I don't even like to think of what they do when the platnum disc falls between your rings and cylinder wall. Bone Maro 06-01-2003, 08:00 PM Plugs: Autolite 106s, $1.18/each Wires: GM Performance Parts 8mm wires, $30 for the set | ||
