ARRRRRGG!!! Over SPRAY!!

Man I am soooo Pissed!

I was driving home the other night and noticed a couple of police lights off in th distance... thought to myself, hmm wonder what that is. well as I got closer to my dismay I saw what it was. It was one of the big road painting trucks...painting the road in windy weather. well I drove right by it and sure enough HELLO OVERSPRAY!

Well Ive already called the DOT Rist assesment dept and stated I wanted to file a claim, but they stated 4-6 weeks for a response...AAAARGGG!!!

Well after a couple of minutes of griping they allowed me to leave a message with the claims adjuster, who had not gotten in yet, but I dont want to wait 4-6 weeks either way.

At any rate, lemme get to the point. Im planning to go after the paint this saturday, before it has a chance to cure really well. I was planning on a dawn wash, mother's laybar with detailing spray. 3m 39009 scratch and swirl remover (probably 1-2 applications of that) and then the imperial hand glaze. I know I know I should be using Zaino, but I ont have it here till next weekend http://web.camaross.com/bb/frown.gif so Im thinking this outta do. if any of you have any tips on this lemme know (especially the best way to use the claybar to get most of the paint off) thanks in advance guys http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif

Ouch! That sux. Anyhow, the Mother's clay should be the only thing you'll need for removing the overspray. Take your time, use lots of lube and moderate pressure and it should all go away with just clay. The 3M SMR might help afterwards, but the IHG won't do a thing other than add oils to your paint. IHG is nothing more than a filler product full of gloss enhancing oils, so it will not clean the paint, or remove overspray. In fact, since you've got Zaino on the way, I'd skip IHG all together, or else you'll have to do another dawn wash to remove all the oils in IHG for Zaino to bond properly. I'd just leave it at SMR then wait for your Zaino...

Thanks, Im going to try that, as a question though, if I use only the swirl remover, wont I have exposed paint with no protection. I figure the imperial glaze would at least offer some protection until the zaino gets here, not sure if Im gonna have the time next weekend to apply the zaino (man g/f require a lot of time now dont they http://web.camaross.com/bb/smile.gif j/k) so I wouldnt mind having some protection on there for the time being

If it was that reflective kind of paint, you have more of a problem on your hands than you think, that kind of paint is filled with reflective metal particles, you could do damage to the paint even claying it.

Your first thing to do would be to go to YOUR insurance agent and report the damage.

Is there any safe way to remove that crap if that's what it is Kevin.

Id rather avoid repainting the whole car.

No way for me to know without looking at it, but my neighbor woman ran her car thru some yellow road paint and the clay would not touch it, because it was stuck so well and was part metal particles. Had to use solvent and scrape it off finger nail at a time.

Well good news...

One claybar, a couple of dawn washes and some scratch and swirl mark remover later and it's looking better than ever.

I decided to risk it on a small protion of the car and it seemed to work great. I then tried it all over.

The car is as smooth as silk and shines like never before. I applied some polish and carnuba for now since I'm not likely to go through that much anguish on the car again for a few weeks. Ill apply the Zaino at that point since I should have it by the time the wax wears off.
