Prices & Installing a Torque converter? 9.5"?

I am going to have a torque converter installed. Are all converters for the LS1 9.5" or are some of them 10". I am looking to get one 2800-3200 stall. After pricing them they run anywhere $300 (midwest and others) - $700(Vigilante, Yank). Are some of them that much better for the price.

During the summer my car is a daily driver, if I go with a 2800-3200 how bad does it affect the gas milage. Any info would be appreciated.

I have never herd a bad thing about mid west, and is the most bang for the buck. though vigilante is an amazing stall converter.

I have the Midwest 3000 stall (2.5 STR) converter with 3.73 gears in my 2000 Z28 and I get 16 mpg in the city and 24 mpg on the highway. Before the gears and converter it was at around 17.5 mpg in the city and 26 on the highway.

Not enough difference to worry about.

The Midwest cost closer to $500 not $300 but it has proven to deliver very acceptable results. I had a Vigilante with my 95 Z28 and it also delivered excellent results. Both work better with a shift kit.

The installation of the converter was $300 (including fluid, filter and gasket) and $170 for the install of the shift kit. ($50 for shift kit and $120 labor including fluid, filter and gasket) The shift kit was done later. On my 95 I used a Transgo that cost $120 and my friend that is a mechanic helped me.

A good 3000 stall converter is one of the best Mods for an automatic you can do.

You won't regret it.

I think this is the right one for it, it is the first one on the page. It also says for up to 350hp and it would be more than that.

I also found a place to install one for $200.

would a 3600 with 3.73 gears be too much?
