I guy I know just came in to work and said he had has car spray painted by vandals. Any quick suggestions for removal? Not sure what kind of paint, but FWIW it is silver in color. The car was bought 'used' and he doesn't know what, or if, it was waxed w/ prior to him buying it and he has yet to wax it himself. Suggestions? Will insurance pick up the cost? TIA

It should definitely be covered under "Comprehensive" with his insurance, if not some other specific vandalism clause.

If the car has a clear coat, wouldn't paint thinner do the trick..?

</font>Really? I was doing a search since a buddy's car was hit with spray paint from a vandal and came across this old post. Any specific technique besides applying it gingerly and maybe starting in an hidden spot to test? Does the paint have to have clear coat or not?

Post edit: Jeff, what did you end up trying?

I had him try WD40, and it worked perfectly. He applied it liberally to the surface and rubbed lightly in a circular motion over the paint. Keep in mind that he did it within 24hrs of being sprayed.

Thanks all for your replies.
