Is this safe compression for boost?

Basicly my heads were ported & milled .010, after porting & milling they were CC'd & came out to 54cc, with the combination of Fel-Pro 1074 gaskets .039 thickness I calculated my compression ratio to be 10.9:1 is is .49 higher then stock. I'm thinking of running boost about 6 pounds hopefully, do you guys think I'll be ok?

I figured this, even ATI 8lb blowers say they are for 93-97 Camaros/Firebirds, now I know the LT4's came with 10.8:1 stock, do they mean 8lbs intercooled will be fine with LT4's aswell then?

Also, what cam do you guys recommend? Reason being is I'm looking at the XE 224/236 .502/.520 lift w/1.5 rockers on 114lsa, I'll be running 1.6 rockers, should I go higher on the lift & LSA?

And will an intercooler help prevent detonation?

here is my head flow numbers:

LIFT...... INT......EXH
.100......74...... 69
.200......127......121
.300......191......152
.400......254......183
.500......283......192
.600......287......201

Your compression is a little on the high side, I would recomend getting the intercooler. Also might want to consider getting some forged pistons and lower your compression down to a more friendlier blower level like 9:1. As far as your cam ges, personally I think its an excellent choice seeing as I have the same one in my car. With the 1.6rr the lift numers will be ~533/555 which is fine.

I am running 11.1 right now with forged internals. I plan on running no more than 5-6 pounds boost. When I go back in and port my heads, I will then go to another gasket to drop the compression a little. For now I will be happy with just a little boost. I will get more power than NA even with that small amount.

Not sure if it will be "ok" depends on tuning, and how heavy your foot is, but it is doable. I have the exact same car with a hotcam, and LT4 block with 10.8:1 with 7lbs. intercooled, has lasted me over a year now, but I haven't dragged it any yet so I guess you can say its been babied for a year or so, but the intercooler will def. help, because detenation is your enemy.

Thanx guys, I hope it'll be fine :)

Ak Miller always said: Doesn't matter what compression your running as long as detonation does not occur. IF your motor runs fine naturally aspirated on 92 octane and doesn't detonate and you want to add 6lbs of boost, you need to go up an equal amount in octane rating for fuel. So, basically, 98 octane.

I think for a daily driver you are pushing it. You do have access to 94 octane Matt up there but with your compression I would put in a intercooler for safety. You can get one fairly cheap and plubing them are not that hard.

As far as the cam's, blowers don't need a huge cam. Gotta remember my buddy that runs a gn stock block setup and only has .484 lift and is running 9's.

In all honesty I think you need to really need to sit down and think if it is going to be a reliable combo.. With the weather like we have had the last few days no way would I want to be testing if you are running too much cylinder pressure. You are on the edge and i just wouldn't try it on the gas avail.
