Hey guys
I have a GM Crate engine with about 60k. it was in a truck with stock bolt ons forabout 40k, then it was taken out and had new cam, and heads added before i bought the car. Well now i want to do the vortec conversion..Scroggin Dickeys Custom vortecs and add a comp 274 extreme cam to get me over or near 400 hp. Is this to much HP for stock internals?? Would i just be better off buyin a short block and doing this? Heres the link to the build im talking about http://www.carcraft.com/techarticles/81998/ anyone know of any similar builds that get a 350 to 400+ HP? Thanks

Tear down the engine, give it some new ARP rod bolts, new bearings, and it should handle 400hp easily.

Those Vortecs, and the cam you mentioned should do you just fine with about a 9.5-10:1 compression ratio. 400 hp should be easy, but you'll want more...:)

Well youve gopt two choices, send it to a machine shop and have them do it for a price, or save your money, and do it yourself. It really isn't hard, pick up some engine building books from the bookstore or library and read em.

Clevite 77 are my only choice, and doing bearings aren't to hard, you can use Plastigauge as a cheap way to do them instead of spending money on engine building tools.
