OK around 2-3 months ago I had my 700R4 transmission rebuilt by a friend of a friend who rebuilds transmissions on the side, he does good work, my friends transmission will bark its tires going into 2nd n has good solid shifts. Mine has an identical *Superior" shift kit installed but all my shifts are weak, the only way I can get a decent noticable shift is part throttle 1-2 shifting it manually with the shifter. The only thing people can think of is that the 2500 stall is softening up my shifts, but Ive known people with 3000 stall to bark their tires into 2nd, n the converter shouldnt slip much when its at 4600rpm (shift point). Im making enough power (303hp at the wheels, 518 torque) but my expertise do not lie within transmissions. I installed a TransGo kit into a 700R4 with a 2300 stall that would bark the tires into 2nd gear, so I'm stumped and so is everyone else. One strange characteristic tho, is that my 2-3 shift is at 3800ish rpm instead of 4600rpm.
Does anyone know what the problem could be? I was really excited about finally having a hard shifting transmission in my IROC so even though i've let it go for 3 months, it would still be nice to solve the problem.
My TV cable is adjusted correctly and my fluid level is fine before anyone points out the obvious :) There was one issue tho - when I first went to pick up the car, the car jolted pretty hard when u put it from Park to Drive, which is what I expect from a shift kitted trans - but the transmissions shifting characteristics were all screwed up, after dropping the pan n valve body he found out that a check ball was on the wrong side of the seperator plate in the AUXHILARY valve body and going up into the governor passage - when he corrected this, my car no longer jolted from Park to Drive... don't know if that has any meaning to anyone.
Thanks guys, hopefully someone can point me in the right direction - the only time ive gotten the car to chirp its tires is going around a tight corner with my torque arm hanging loose shifting into 2nd.....
