playaz28 10-24-2001, 11:52 AM no, get yourself either the California Water Blade or some sort of squeege. you can use the chamois with the water blade, the water blade just swipes all the water from the surface leaving nothing but a shine. (?) use the two or sub a towel for the chamois and you'll have a dry car, for sure.
Wildcat 10-24-2001, 12:17 PM The Toro 210 MPH (or greater) electric leaf blower works great as well.
Kevin V 2002 SS 10-24-2001, 12:25 PM I also use a blower and 100% cotton towels (bought from KevinSS) to finish the drying. I also use baby diapers, which are 100% cotton and soft enough for a baby's butt.

MikeLS 10-24-2001, 12:48 PM The Absorber and Water Blade work very well for me... no scratching or swirling, very quick drying.

Chris Wright 10-25-2001, 11:33 AM According to an Audi driving friend of mine that is very much into the detail thing, the "Aquis Hair Towel" from Bed, Bath & Beyond is the best drying towel money can buy. Be sure to buy the one with the "waffle" pattern.
Rock ON!!

you can find them at walmart. it is a type of chamois that does not scratch you car. it is better than the old leather chamois. i have one but i am going to try the blower idea when i wash my car this time. hope this helps.

theblur98ss 10-25-2001, 06:02 PM The absorber works great to soak up water instead of towels but on a black car it's no 'shammy'. It leaves water marks and streaks on mine.
DJCZ28 10-28-2001, 04:36 AM The ABSORBER works well for me.
A microfiber towel, specifically the "miracle towel". Chamois work well but nothing works like a miracle towel. They work well for removing wax too. I'd also second the water blade.

tubby 10-29-2001, 02:58 PM i have a '97 black t/a that i washed and dried with chamios till recently switching to leaf blower. chamois never scratched or swirled my finish and believe me i washed this car alot. so i can't say anything bad other than it was more time consuming than the leaf blower. BTW i also own a black ford truck and a black jeep so you can imagine my garage looks more like a car wash.

JackZ.Twenty8 10-30-2001, 06:02 AM I used to use a leaf blower, and they work great, but over here, it's a hassle. You have to plug the extension cord into a transfomer, cause the voltage is 220, and then plug that into the wall. Now I just use the Absorber, and it works awesome!

With a chamois you should always buy the synthetic such as the absorber and not the natural because the natural contains oils and acids and what not that can, supposedly, eat away at your car's wax. Just a FYI for all you chamois users.

Do not use a gas blower, those tend to put an oily film or small oil droplets on the car.
cixelsyD21 11-02-2001, 09:19 PM The absorber is used by many swimmers to dry themselves off quickly. I use one on my black camaro, my moms black miata, and my bros black firebird and it works great on all.
95_RipperZ 11-05-2001, 08:26 PM I use the absorber for what the water blade doesnt get. Those small spots. I lost a water blade over the summer and was too lazy to go get another. I HATE TOWELS and even the absorber for doing the entire car. takes forever.

Meccadeth 02-04-2003, 05:26 PM Is a CHAMOIS the same thing as a SHAMMY? My friend said the a 'shammy' works better than a 100% cotton towel and The Absorber to dry cars, especially black ones. I didn't even know what the hell a Shammy was, I've never heard of one before.
moparman 02-04-2003, 07:33 PM Yes, chamois and shammy are the same. However, if you see a product specifically called "shammy", it is probably not the real thing, but a synthetic copy.
hcvone 02-04-2003, 07:35 PM Electric leaf blower and a cotton towel, from Kevin. ;)
ImportKILLER 02-04-2003, 10:47 PM I use the absorber and a water blade. Works pretty well...the water blade makes a BIG difference in drying time.
Do any of you guys wash your absorber? I usually just wring it out a bit and then put it back into the tube.
Allen66 02-08-2003, 12:39 AM I wash my Absorber in our washing machine.
The Absorber works much better than a regular chamois. However,I still haven't found one that really dries the car all the way. It just seems to scoot water around instead of drying it.
It looks like you would use tons of towels if you dried the car that way.
rotoruter2001 02-09-2003, 02:52 AM absorber
dmnall 02-09-2003, 03:39 AM I just use a Chamois to get most of the water and then use the absorber to get the rest... Imho the absorber, is the biggest POS when it comes to drying any car... I used to have a Black GMC 1500 LWB P/U and you can see that the Absorber did not even get all the water off just kind of made water streaks.. next time I wash my car I will try out the Leaf Blower... and see how that works...
