This subject has been covered number of times with Pro & Con. For starters Do Not BELIVE the Mfg claims of that much HP. Also on a street car you will have problems with the the charging system which I can do without.;)

So do a search or just wait for the Posts.

I got a kit about six months back when they pulley on my harmonic balancer came off in the middle of I-5, leaving me w/ no cooling, power steering, etc. Scared sh*tless, but anyway. . .

I noticed a good gain. I wouldn't say 15-20 horses like they advertise, but probably a good 7-10 RWHP. It was a lot easier to smoke the tires. :)

I say go for it. Fairly cheap, but a b*tch to put on if the bolt on your alternator is frozen. :(

would a higher amp alt. solve this charging problem? maybe a 140 amp?

It wouldn't help much, because the alternator doesn't hit it's peak current output until it gets above a certain speed, and the whole problem with underdrive pulleys is that they slow the alternator down which means it hits peak output at a higher RPM. The minimum speed is the same no matter what the output rating. It'll help a little because the extra charging when it's above min. speed will offset the loss of charging while below min. speed, but it's not likely to be enough to keep the battery topped up.

i got a set and i've been running them for about 2 weeks, nothing negative, seems to wind up a little faster, nothing insane though.

Dropped 0.15 seconds in my ET, no charging problems other than the fact that my battery is toast anyway, I'll be replacing that shortly, ran the underdrive pulleys for about 6 months - make friends with a guy who has an auto shop and an impact gun to do your alternator pulley. March Perf. also have a set that retains charging ability if charging is an issue for you, but I have an 800w RMS stereo system in the back of my car n I have no problems with an OEM reman pep boys alternator, unless its night, i have my headlights on, sitting at a red light wtih the stereo turned up to max - my subs cut out, but it did that before the pulleys anyway, I don't even run a cap lol I should get one of those one day.

Pulleys make a difference. The new GMHTP mag has project 'Blue Thunder' - a 305 TPI Formula - which made 17HP/13 ft/lbs. torque at the rear wheels, with the JET power pulleys. Thats a serious gain in power for a simple bolt-on part, esp for a 305.

It is a 2-piece set; crank and alternator pulleys. PN# 90107
