need advice....

guys,
when I bought my car, it had 102K miles (now 106) and it looked like nobody really cared about it, both mechanically and visually.
The car has lost its shine, at least is not as shiny as most of the other camaro's of the same era I've seen.
I need to restore some of the shine, preferrably without repainting the car.
Any suggestions?

They have a great selection of products to choose from. Zaino is the best stuff out there. Read over their product list and decide what is best for your needs, but a basic kit should include Z-1 (Polish Lok), Z-2 (polish for clear coat), Z-6 (gloss enhancer), and Z-7 (car wash). You may want to consider getting Z-5 if you have swirl marks and Z-18 if you have bug stains or your paint feels rough to the touch.

Zaino, absolutely, however, you should make any repairs, etc. needed to the surface prior to beginning the Zaino process.

By the sounds of it, You may need to use a little elbow grease and use a very light rubbing compound like 3M swirl remover 39009 to re-work the finish/clearcoat.

After that you could start to use whatever you'd like. Me for instance, I use Zaino, but I'm not about to tell you to use it, frankly, If you used say the Mother's three step system, it's easily available to buy at any store and relatively simple to do.

Almost everyone here uses Zaino and swears by it, But I've found it doesn't work miracles for me like it does for others. Is it good? Yes. It lasts longer than wax, And shines very nice, however it hasn't sold me to the point that I'd only suggest it. Maybe I'm too fussy.

But as for restoring old, crummy paint: Wash the car, then a light rubbing compound, wash again, and use wax or Zaino. It's up to you. To me, one WAX works as good as any other WAX. Zaino is not a wax.

If you don't want to use zaino, which you should....you should try meguiars cleaner wax and swirl mark remover and go from there. It doesn't look like it is in that bad of shape, just looks neglected. Engine compartment looks very clean.

Well, I like working on the engine and doing mechanical stuff more than mess with polishing compounds and wax and all that. Probably because I don't know too many things about them.

I've taken care of the engine when I did the intake leak fix. Worked on cleaning everything really thorougly.

Could someone guide me through this please?

I'm really just a beginner, so step by step advice would more likely help me.
