Disconnect Scanmaster?

I will be reading/reflashing my PCM with LT1 edit. Can I leave the Scanmaster hooked up or will it need to be disconnected during the process?

I'm not sure about LT1-Edit, but I have Tunercat, and while I don't know if it will work with the Scanmaster still connected, but I don't risk it!!

However, when I wired mine in, I also wired in a very simple toggle switch and mounted it under my dash, so its just a switch to turn it on and off... I believe I wired it into the White/Power line.

Datamaster doesn't work with my scanmaster turned on, but Freescan does... I also don't think any GM dealership scanners will work if its plugged it.

Sorry not much help, other then to suggest you wire in a on/off switch to make it very easy to turn on and off :)

I put the disconnect switch in the data line from the ALDL connector to the ScanMaster. I'm pretty sure the SM is a two-way communications setup, and when its sending data back to the PCM it would screw up any other data stream. Everything I've read (including my own online SM guide) recommends that it be disconnected before attempting to connect any other device to the PCM.

I have a switch in mine as well. I just flip the switch and read away.

If the Scanmaster is on then the programming software will not be able to make a connection. I think both the SM and the programmer are sending conflicting communication requests to the pcm at the same time.

A simple 2 pole switch in the data line will be all you need.

Yep a little toggle is the ticket. CATS just says, there's no connection to the pcm. Or something like that.
