Skinnies

Got bit by the drag racing bug after going to the track the first time. So I've got a 12 bolt on the way, 4.11 gears, and M/T Streets for the rears, not to mention a new clutch and a line lock.

To the reason for the post.... Looking to get skinnies for the front and don't want to modify anything on the car. What size, backspacing etc should I look at. I'm not even sure how to specify bolt pattern. Oh and I'm looking to do this as cheaply as possible, I won't be at the track every week.

You need 5 lugs on a 4.75" bolt circle.

Typical wheels are 15x3.5" or 15x4", with a backspace in the 1.75" - 2.25" range. Some 15's will fit the front with no spacers. Others will require a 5/16" spacer to move the center of the wheel away from the spring clips that hold the pads in the calipers, and the big horizontal bar on the steering knuckle that supports the caliper and pads.

For low cost, try and find a wheel that uses the stock "acorn" style tapered lugnut. If you get a Weld wheel, you need longer front studs to pass tech with the Weld "extra long shank mag-style" lugs.

1. How wheel lug studs installed? Do they require a machine press?

2. Where does one find spacers?
