grygst76 05-20-2003, 04:38 PM I'm on 128 and this guy in a green z like mine is next to me so he shows off and rips a patch...naturally I'm curious so I do the same---Anyways we get to a stretch where it is straight and pin it. He just blows by me like nothing---I couldn't even catch up!! So I get next to him and say what are you running? He tells me it's stock minus the gutted cat, hooker exhaust, and moroso cold air!! It does not sound like he has a stock camaro and he is the guy NOYZee was talking about in gloucester if you read the mustangchusetts post.. So now I am pissed at how crappy my car runs!! I don't believe for a second that a cold air intake and catback exhaust would make him walk over me... I need some real power any suggestions?? I'm working on headers and cold air but I think I need more I am a little disgusted in the LT1 as far as prices for parts....Not to make myself sound any more but I only shifted at 5000 and did not bury the throttle but he still should not have spanked me..
chevy94c 05-20-2003, 05:05 PM Rich97 has a green Z28 maybe it was him.:D

I have a Hotcam ($125) and Mac 1-5/8 shorties with dual cat Y, not coated ($125).
Josh-'04 GTO 05-20-2003, 09:21 PM If you didn't even have it floored, how do you know how far off you are? If he really beat you down, then he probably has more work into it than he was admitting to.

broken in is not bad on a roller cam definitely get back to me hope fully I can grab those headers as well!!
GeneCamaro 05-21-2003, 01:17 AM Maybe he has a freak Z. Have you ever ran your car at the track. Also your car is basically stock. The throttle body won't do much on a stock motor. Flowmaster flows pretty crappy too or so I hear. CAI and better exaust will open things. LT1 are way to restricted out the factory. You'll definetely feel a SOTP difference with just a CAI.
gbelli 05-21-2003, 07:09 AM Go to the track, see how far your really off. Could be time for a tuneup :D
NOYZEE 05-21-2003, 08:05 AM Hey was that green car a convert?? I sucked up a green lt1 383 stroker last night in my old mans Z06, but the car was quick!!! Still beat him in a stock z06! It was a low 13 high 12 sec car, the Z06 went 12.7@ 113 on a 2.1 60' and this car wasnt to shabby!!
And if you see this guy again, bring him my way, My car is stock to!! Just a Ram Air kit. Verrrrrrry nice one thoe!!!:p
Black97Z 05-21-2003, 08:50 AM uh, next time you should try actually putting the pedal to the floor, and shifting just past peak hp.

The TB may be hurting his performance....this is up for a huge discussion atleast once a week but the general consensus is that a bigger TB on a stock motor is never a good idea, certainly not worth the $350 and could take away from performance.
The headers and cam will DEFINATLY help you.
grygst76 05-21-2003, 10:22 AM I just have a hard time understanding the concepts. The 52mm does work higher in the rpm range I felt a better pull but still I know I should have shifted higher up like 6000 and floored it as well but I am not going to beat my car to death either. There will be a next time and the next time I will smoke him. The only other reason why I know he isn't stock is cause when we were up the powerband he chirped his tires----no stock z is gonna smoke the tires around 80mph I don't care. Well I'll be picking the headers up this week and hopefully the cam as well---put both in next week and pray my bizznitch is a little faster.

Hey NOYZEE, hows the turbos? Ever get it running right after the dyno?
As far as the 383, sounds like he couldnt hook. I should be in the 12.5 range with homeported heads/cam/bolt-ons. Sounds like an extremely mild 383. The ZO6 has decent mph, but the ET is a little high. A little better 60' and you should see 12.4-12.50.
GeneCamaro 05-21-2003, 02:48 PM I've seen stock Z06's run 12.0-12.1 consistantly at 116-118mph. Those cars are freakin fast as ****.

i think its funny that i've been able to pull 2.12 60fts on sucky futura super sports all day long, only problem is that i can't keep up that pace the whole way down the track :D I wonder what I could get her to do w/ tires that will actually allow me to launch at something over 1200 rpms
I gotta get a muffler on my car so I can run at the track w/ my car thats finally running at least close to the way its supposed to.
NOYZEE 05-22-2003, 04:22 PM Real, I got the car runnin very well, didnt take long, got some more work done, car made 532 rwhp and 535 rwtq. she went 11.8 @123 a couple weeks ago with a 2.28 60', not to bad!!
This car im talkin bout is a dog, who ever built it didnt do so great, the car is kind of a bone. But the Z06 is no joke, That car will go 12.2 no prob, i drove it like ****, bounced the rev lim and spun the tires, and it only had 2,000 miles on it. First time out with the car!! It will get better

Glad to hear your turbo setup is running good. Hopefully I see you at the track with the ZO6 when I get my heads and LT's done ;) :D
NOYZEE 05-23-2003, 06:16 PM Well with the #'s in your sig, I might have to power shift just right to win, But If my Dads stock car looses that means I'll have to break out the White Z!!! If that looses, looks like the Silver Bullet might have to come out to play!!!;)

Hehe. Well the #'s in my sig are before the stage 2 heads, long tubes, TB and MAF. I hope to be 390rwhp-400rwhp when I'm done with the install. The white Z would make me look like I'm in reverse! What is the silver bullet?
NOYZEE 05-23-2003, 06:46 PM 390 is nice #'s!!!!!! It would be a good race against the Z06, you have more power but the Z should be a little lighter! It would be tight!! I do plan on a couple little things on the Z06, They should put me around 360 to 370 rwhp wich will be good for my old man, just enoph that if a stock Z06 wants a piece, my old man has it covered!!!!:p
What is this Silver bullit I speak of, you ask!!!! It is my emergency back up!! Only problem is she isnt very street leagle! But I can always call on Scottie Wheels and his WS-6!!!
grygst76 05-24-2003, 07:14 AM met Rich in worcester (great guy) picked up the headers and they were in pretty good shape so props to Rich and nice car by the way!! so these will be going on this week after my visit with my daughter this weekend so stage one is almost complete in my list of stages. maybe I'll be the first in the area to convert 94 exhaust specs to 97!! Although you would think spending 749.50 new for headers would give you a tad bit more then 28.4 horsepower!!! used ported heads for that price would net you close to 70 if done right. ANYWAYS your dad has a Z06 Brad?? Must be nice to have all those toys at your disposal huh? I like the ZO6. It's a strong balance of road feel and power for the price. I just might bring my orange pumpkin up here so I don't feel so bad losing in my stock Z!! Straightaways my pumpkin is a killer.....take a corner and forget it since she has air shocks I'll spin the rear!!! So I might see you guys at the next NED-Day but don't expect me to dyno!! Not until I stab the bumpstick in her and clean up the stock heads for 2.00 1.55.
sleeperZ96BT 05-24-2003, 08:18 AM hey man, ill be getting that cam today, you still want it, right? and yeah, rich is an AWESOME guy! hes a great member of our lil family, lol.

Rich97Z28 05-24-2003, 01:19 PM Thanks guys. We LT1 owners have to stick together ... we're a dying breed.:D
Gary, glad the headers passed qc. Good luck with that install. Hope you bring that clean green machine to NEDyno next Sat.
Brian, I'll make sure the laptop is fully charged.
See you guys on Sat.

I'll be making the journey to ned-day of course yes camaro owners are a dying breed:cry: everyone is going to imports for some unknown apparent reason. I had 2 imports in my ife but nothing truly beats cubic inches am I wrong? I think I'll buy both cams first I want to grab Rich's; then I'll grab the comp cam in the same 2 weeks and try them both. One thing that kills me is I thought I finnally found a performance shop (Indy) in Danvers but turns out they almost double the price of summit or jegs yet they advertise that their prices are similar!! For an example proform 1.6 rollers thru pace---83.00---thru them145.00!!!! AFR heads thru them is 250.00 more then most shops. I asked the guy to do better on the price and he said that's the best they can do so I said lowr the price and gain a customer. They said can't do it, So lose a customer to make a quick buck? How retarded is that? I told the guy my business walks too bad for them I might have threw down some duckets there. Rich, I will be checking out Golens this week as well for a 383 shortie since my attorney gave me some good news and I spoke with Merlin again and the conversion is not very cost effective for the 427:cry: I only want a maximum of 600 ponies and torque as well. Believe me guys any more then that for the street is overkill and you will get sick of driving it around. My orange pumpkin is living proof and my 69. It sucks after a while to ALWAYS feather the gas just to go red light to red light . Some will say "It depends on the driver"..That's a lie told by 4 cylinder car owners!! ANYHOW Big props to all you guys for holding down the Z28 Fort and I will be shooting down to the NED-day to see how far people have gone in this addiction!!!
RED95LT1Z28 05-25-2003, 02:12 PM Yeah we lt1 owners do hafta stick together......do you guys get your balls broken as much as i do cuz of the lt1? Oh well hopefully my car will be a little quicker soon. I think after i put that NOYZEE racing sticker on my car it slowed it down:D And the silver bullet is no joke that car is insane and neither is scotty wheels.
NOYZEE 05-26-2003, 03:04 PM I can get parts CHEAP!! talk to me!!
As for red95, the sticker slowed you down because your car is soooo weak it cant take the weight of a little sticker!!! Nice LCA's by the way!!!
grygst76 05-26-2003, 03:40 PM rich, got the o2 sensor out since mine is not the same but I've developed the infamous LT1 misfire AGAIN!!! definitely not coming from the plugs this time PITA!!! I was going to remove everything today but the stupid new england weather has stopped me again since trying to remove headers in the rain is no picnic...
grygst76 05-28-2003, 06:55 AM Well by myself I started the header install at 9:00am and did not finish until 6:30pm!! what an incredible PITA!! It seemed like nothing wanted to line up then I kept dropping bolts e.t.c But the car is MUCH louder now and I got rid of the misfire. turns out they gapped my plugs at 45 when I had them done but plug access now is a lot easier to do with the MAC's. I never want to put headers on again for a LONG time considering it beat the crap out of me. I couldn't reuse my y-pipe so I had to go with the dual cats so today or tomorrow I will be bringing it to a shop to weld the piece in since my flowmaster single cat needs to be cut and attached to the pipe. Props Rich!
grygst76 05-28-2003, 11:58 AM OK here is my observation of th edifferrence with the headers (MAC) installed
1. better plug access is number one!
2. Made my flowmaster more deep and it is not that loud anymore.
3. Awful ticking coming from the drivers side.
4. Lost some low end torque but made up for it around 4200RPM's
5. Engine compartment is now a lot hotter.
6. Must install LT4 Knock module due to a feeling I am getting retard from the noisier headers.
7. Car mirrors and interior rattles at 1500RPM's
8. No popping or backfiring whatsoever!!!
So all in all it was worth it to be walking around today sore as hell from 12 hours of install and burning the number 8 plug on the header a few minutes ago it was a royal pain and recommend a shop next time around. Now for the cam and loudmouth exhaust and I will be one happy camper!!
Rich97Z28 05-28-2003, 12:06 PM Hey Gary. Glad the install was relatively painless. Did you use hi temp paint on those puppies before install? I remember noticing alot of heat in the engine compartment after the install cuz they aren't coated. See you on Sat.

Never bothered, I just threw them in. I will be using heat blankets on them though. I will take your "painless" remark with a grain o salt LOL I should be up there no doubt I'm waiting to here my chick give me the go ahead!!
grygst76 06-01-2003, 04:05 PM So how did everyone do? I did not want to go because I haven't fixed the exhaust leak yet so I went out and bought thicker gaskets. The ticking is so loud I think I'm getting serious spark knock so I dare not drive it till its fxed. Hey NOYZEE on my way home friday some A$$ in an M3 beemer cut me off 128 so I ran up to him and forced him off the road and he ended up being some fat jerk who was too scared to get out of his car plus margueritas have a sneak up effect!!
NOYZEE 06-01-2003, 11:54 PM BMW, you know how those guys are, should have hit him. Sucked we all got stuck in the rain with the cars, But sat we cleaned like crazt!

Yeah i like those lca and the adj. torque arm doesn't hurt either...now that i have the nice tranny to put in and the vigilante converter it should wake the car up along with that rear end. And as for getting prices cheap i get the cheapest ones i just wait for something newer to come out and noyzee jumps on it and i get his old stuff at a discount:D
NOYZEE 06-04-2003, 07:35 PM I break it in and then we put it in your car. Your car is only good for doggy bags anyway!! j/k:D
grygst76 06-12-2003, 01:52 PM I'll be the first to be ashamed to admit it---you do feel a sotp feel from going with cai and headers...I finnally got her to chirp on 128 and it was NICE!!! some guy in a m5 bmw (whats with me and bmw's?) cut me off from endicott st so being the I hate to lose kind of guy I tried (and succeded) to catch up to him. I shifted @5900 and CHIRP shifted to third @6000 and CHIRP!! caught him quick and you should have seen his look on his face!! Although now I have to adjust my valves because I'm getting the ticking from #5 or 7 not sure which. What a big improvement man!!
grygst76 06-12-2003, 02:57 PM It won't hurt if I tightened the rocker down 1/2 instead of 3/4 right? I adjusted them with the engine running; loosened til clacking, tighten just enough to stop clacking, and went 1/2 turn instead of 3/4. When I loosened them they were turned down 1 to 1 and 1/2 times why so tight? The car has 102,000 miles and has never been adjusted could that be why? Also the engine runs so incredibly smooth now it's pathetic!! I don't know squat about hydraulic roller cams so I feel retarded asking but you never know anyways the ticking is definitely gone now...
