2 questions......

1) for anyone with a dead stock '98 LS1 A4....anyone have any dyno numbers?????any projections???

2) ive heard that cars are usually dynoed in 3rd or 4th gear for the best numbers....if this is true how can an auto car be dynoed from baseline RPM (like 1000 or something right) in 3rd or 4th gear??? or are auto cars....
A)dynoed in first at WOT all the way to redline
B) dynoed from the lowest possible RPM/speed to keep them in a higher gear on up?????

i know nothing about dynos and was just pondering...

You should see anywhere from 275 RWHP on up. Unfortunately I cannot answer your other questions.

B) in 3rd
All dynos should be run in the 1 to 1 ratio gear.
3rd in an A4.
4th in a M6.

stock i had 294 at the wheels and with the few mods that i have done i now have 320 at the wheels. see my sig for details. from what the guy that dynoed my car said the reason why you dyno the car in third gear is because of the ratio because if you do it in first or second you will see an extremely large number for torque as a larger numbered gear ratio will multiply the torque.

To answer your question about how to dyno in a certain gear without having the tranny kick down ... the correct way is to install a lockout onto the tranny.

When we did a dyno day at Hypertech, all the A4 cars lined up to have an electronic box plugged into the tranny so it would lock it in the correct gear. It took all of 5 minutes.

Having said that, when another place dynoed my A4 Z28 (may it RIP), they just put it in "D" and floored it, letting the tranny kick down to 1st and run through 2nd and into 3rd.
