Most of the time when I start my car and have to back up and I put it into reverse it sounds like it's grinding the gear to get it into reverse. My foot is all the way down on the clutch and i dont know what to do to fix this. Switching gears other than reverse works perfectly. I just bought the car a few weeks ago. Its a 1994 Camaro coupe v6 5-speed manual. Help would be appriciated Thanks.

I have the same freakin' problem. I have a 2002 5-speed. It grinds sometimes, but I notice if I move my chair up a little more to get more pressure on the clutch, it goes into reverse smoothly.

i was gonna ask the same thing...i have a 2001 M5 and it does it almost every time. i dont know if its just the gears meshing or what, but i'm gonna try that moving the chair up thing although i dont see how it would really help:D but wut the heck...

The only reason I moved my seat up was because I thought I wasn't pressing the clutch all the way in. So now I can press more on the clutch, but ****, it still grinds sometimes, but not as often.

Yep, I sure have the same problem. Reverse was always a pain to get into without giving that grinding sound. And even after I put in my new clutch i still have the same problem. I just figured out the way the gear likes to go in so that way everytime you put it into reverse it won't do the grinding that your talking about. What I do is just put in first gear first then hold the shifter all the way to the right and just let it drop it self down to reverse and then bingo no grinding sound. And also if when your putting it into reverse it's hard to drop it down and makes the pop and grinding sound. another thing is just hold it the right push down to where it won't go then let the clutch up a little bit and it'll just fall right down into reverse.

There is NO syncho on the reverse gear! This is the problem! Moving your chair WILL NOT change if it happens or not. If you are already pushing the clutch all the way in. Because there is no Syncho on reverse, 9 times out of 10, the gears will grind because they are going different speeds when they mesh! By putting the car in 5 (Or any other gear for that matter) BEFORE going to reverse, it will stop things from spinning, and the car will go to reverse with NO grinding. It is as simple as this.
