13" Baer's and our spare ?

First I only thought switching to a Baer 13" front brake system would only prove problematic for my front skinnies (I hope that's not blaspheme with this group ;) ) but now I'm wondering what the heck I do when I go on a trip for a spare?

I don't normally carry my spare, that spot's filled with my nitrous bottle, but I do put it in the car when I go on trips. If I hadn't had it with me a couple of months ago I'd still be on the side of the road in south east Arizona. So I was wondering what others do for a spare?

TIA

You could probably score a cheap Vette wheel for those "just incase" times. So long as its not put on the back (unless the tire diameter matches) it shouldn't be a problem.

Hmm, I was hoping to find some "space saver" solution. I'd rather use a "skinny" (if I could find one that fits with the brakes/rotors) as a spare than a full size vet wheel just due to the space it would take up in the car.

Here's a follow-up question .... of course I realize that we shouldn't run the mini-spare on the rear due to potential damage to the posi-rearend but how long would it take to cause this potential damage? I mean, can you drive 50 mph for 50 miles without any trouble or would be even less than that?

oh wow, I never thought about that.. I'm giong to put on the c5 brakes on, and never thought to see if the spare would fit (prob wouldn't)..

HOw about that fix a flat stuff in a can? I heard that stuff realy gunks up your rims inside though..

I had no luck with that stuff with my last flat. I ran over a box cutter out in the middle of the freakin desert. There was a huge slice in my 315/35 rear tire. No way was that stuff gonna seal it, I tried 2 cans. I ended up moving my front tire to the rear and using the mini-spare until I could get it fixed.

If it were a small puncture, I might try it but I would have the tire removed from the rim and cleaned out and patched when I got an opportunity.

Its going to hurt it no matter what, since one side is spinning a different rate than the other, the clutch packs are going to slip, slip, slip thier way home.

C4 Corvettes that came with 13" brakes also came with a 17" spare tire. You might try looking for one in a junkyard.

I thought he meant a Vette spare. They are space savers, aren't they?

The C4s, through 96, had a space saver spare. The compartment underneath the rear that holds the spare expanded to hold a full size wheel in the event you had to use it.

There is a C5 upgrade for the C4, and it fit behind the ZR-1 style wheels, which were an option in 96. So, for those with the C5 upgrade, I would check for a space-saver from a 96, maybe there is a difference from earlier years. 96 may have had a run-flat option as well, can't remember.

I think the Baer 13" kit is supposed to be the same as the 13" Grand Sport caliper, so you shouldn't have a problem with clearance issues for the later model Corvette spares.

Check with Gene's Kar Shop off the Corvette Forum. He is used alot on that forum and can probably help you out.

Another thought ... if there is still a question about brake clearance, just get a spacer for use with a C4 corvette spare. I think you can get them fairly inexpensively through Summit.

My OEM spare will not clear my C5 brakes. I had to swap a back tire to the front and put the spare out back (my poor posi unit).

Would a T2R get damaged driving like that too? I suspect it wouldn't be good for the gears it has.
