Error 05-11-2003, 06:30 PM I know our 87 Formula does NOT have a clearcoat. Various manufacturer's started at various times, but most in the early 90's. I think the later IROC's and stuff were CC. Someone correct me. The first factory painted car that I know of that came with clear coat was the C-4 Corvette in its first year of production. Car makers went to clear coat to make paint hold up longer over time as the clear coat protects the base coat from UV rays as UV rays is what makes an old car look old to start with. Base Coat/clear coat is also easier to do repairs and work with than single stage, it is easier to spot paint and blend using clear coat rather than single stage. fbird95 05-12-2003, 02:32 AM I do believe it was the C-4. I remeber reading that in the corvette chronicle a while back. Its cool to see your from K.O.P. I live about 20 minutes from you. | ||
