Deleted post, as "religious zeal - spin and opinion" was added to hard facts. Recovering from kidney cancer surgery. I am in pain, on pain meds and grouchy.

This is surprising, I have been dealing with Summit for over 20 years mail order and everything has been packed adequately or on the side of overprotecting the product (I can give them a good critique as I am a UPS shipper).

To clarify they have a 90 day no questions asked return policy. It seems harsh to not cut you some slack for being two days over. I recently sent back about $140 worth of stuff and I was sent a postcard notifying me they had received the products and that I would be getting full credit, which I did. I did this well within the 90 days allowed. It is normal for speed shops and other business to have a 15% or more restocking charge after a grace period - 60 days is average, 90 days is unusual. All the business has to do is have that policy clearly published, either in their mailed materials or on their website.

Thanks for posting your experience - buyer beware and be sure to know the policies of the businesses you deal with.

Response to Lady in Nomex.

Funny you should mention UPS. In college, I loaded their Semi-trucks in their main hub in Orlando, FL (average of about 2000 packages in just over 3 hours). Volume was so high between Thanksgiving and Xmas, that parcels got very rough treatment off of the conveyor belts to keep from being buried in packages. They would literally run out of trucks and bring Ryder trucks in to pack, just to get them out of the way. Packaging of parcels is extremely important.

I've worked at UPS before too, and basically you should expect your item to be thrown, as well as caught in a conveyer belt from time to time. I shudder to think of the computer monitors and TVs that go through thier system. I recently did some consulting for someone that bought a monitor off Half.com and it was packaged VERY poorly, some styro half-hazzardly thrown in around the corners and the result was a very broken monitor. Before opening the box you knew it was toast.

Sometimes people will begin stacks with the small items, so figure 7-8 feet worth of stuff on top of your box as well, just as a safety precaution. I wonder what FedEX (aka PhedEX from long ago, for you phackers out there) looks like, I have always liked them. Most of the time I use USPS for small items now, but thier rates are not always as great, and thier tracking system really bites.
