dreamer1q 05-10-2003, 10:30 AM Had a bit of a hard time yesterday. We were suspose to be at Speedworks at 1:30. DIDNT happen. On the way out of GR, my brother lost a bolt out of the caliper on the right rear. chewed up the wheel a bit, and ended his day. SO he is left sitting at a gas station. We decide that one of us needs to try and make it, so off I go. Not a bad ride over, the Rag cruised pretty nice at 3600 RPM. FINALLY get to Speedworks, and after the normal amount of ribbing me for being late, and a West Sider;) , Greg loads her onto the Dyno. Those guys were so busy, espically with me being late, but they still took real good care of me. :thumb: We cracked jokes, and bench raced a bit, then Greg got in and did a pull. He was real gentle at first, but by the 4th pull he decided he was gonna try and break it. :o I told him to do his worst, and off he went. HERE (http://home.attbi.com/~videosection/dyno.MPG) is a video of that pull, all 6800 RPM of it:eek: She pulled strong, and put down 392.9HP @6500RPM and 356.9 TQ @4750:) :metal: Not too shabby for a NA motor. All in all a good day. A bit long, and there are things to fix, but a good day. The guys at Speedworks are TOP NOTCH. Made me feel very welcome, and took great care of me. I highly recommend them to anyone who needs a good tune. Plus you get to see some SUHWEET rides when you are there. After seeing the cars in there, it makes me glad I am on this side of the state. I would constantly be getting into trouble on that side;) Anyway, thanks to ALL of you for your help this winter...espically my brother, Rediroc-z28 and Sinistersyclone. You guys were a big help. Now I just need to get it to the track. Better get your bottle Chad:p
lt1car 05-10-2003, 10:52 AM Hey,
Good pull. I cant wait till I can do a run like that in the new z.
See you at ignace,
Joe
dreamer1q 05-10-2003, 10:56 AM Hey, one more thing I forgot to ask Greg. What is the formula to calculate these numbers to real world. I thought I heard some of you talking about it.
Q
Redbird 05-10-2003, 10:59 AM Kool numbers... now times are in order!!! :D
I bet she'll spit out some pretty nice ET & MPH numbers
for ya!!
Greg is very personable and a real nice guy to work with! I gotta take the Redbird back next week to see if Greg can work some 'puter magic on it to get her to shift into second.
I really hate having her sitting at home on the trailer when I invested money this winter and need to be at a track every weekend PRACTICING/IMPROVING me and the car. MY goal is to once again become a serious and competitive bracket racer at
the age of 51, not 26 like my younger days.

Grover 05-10-2003, 11:10 AM Holy Crap!!!    Good job Q, I am glad that all your hard work over the winter has paid off. If you can get that car to hook, there is no doubt that it is an 11 second car. Last year at M7 when I ran the 12.48 I only had ~320rwhp according to Greg's dyno and that was without getting into 4th gear. So you are 70hp better awesome man. I guess I need to start getting some more side jobs so I can get these crappy Modern Musclecar heads off of my car and get some real ones on there.
On a side note do you have any Datamaster logs of WOT runs, I am looking to compare my airflow readings to other peoples to see what is going on with mine.
Enough chatting, gotta get out to the garage and finish installing the bottle.

I got the car drivable, but didnt want to push it till Greg was done with it. I will do a few pulls this week and log them for ya.
Chad, what were you guys talking about with the Dyno numbers and corrections? My engine builder is trying to find out flywheel horse guesstimates. I thought there was something to do with a Mustang Dyno??
Q
turbolx 05-10-2003, 12:44 PM Figure about 18% loss, Q. So 393/.82 = roughly 480 Flywheel. She should run "OK". ;)
Grover 05-10-2003, 12:59 PM The only correction I remember talking about was how to get from Mustang Dyno numbers to Dynojet numbers.
Here is my results:
349.3hp @ 6000RPM
323.8tq @ 5250RPM
Hey Greg, is there any way that you could email me the log of my final run in a text file or a .csv file or something that I could open in Excel to analyze the curve closer. It just looks kind of weird that my power is pretty level from 5800 to 6600 instead of climbing to the end.
RedIrocZ-28 05-10-2003, 01:07 PM turbo is right. Automatic transmissions usually figure out to be 18-20% drivetrain loss. Manuals are usually 13-15% in ideal conditions.
:( I'm prolly only gonna put down about 250 to the wheels IF that :(
treyZ28 05-10-2003, 01:20 PM how much do they charge:confused:

Yomama 05-10-2003, 02:12 PM Good Job Q! Hope to see that ride soon.

just a dyno tune :)
taner 05-10-2003, 04:10 PM excellent job! now get it to the track to really break her in :D
ur2slow 05-10-2003, 04:37 PM Greg knows his Stuff! When I took it to him for a dyno tune we had a problem with my lt1 edit working. I finally got it to work later on that day at brought it back up to him. He wasn't able to put it on the dyno but messed with the program a bit. I think he hit the nail on the head. :D I took it to APE for dyno day and it pulled best of 370 rwhp and 350 rwt. Runs very strong for stock lt4 heads. Still haven't got it to the track yet.
ltlhomer 05-10-2003, 05:13 PM Awesome Quentin! I think it was those white castle burgers we picked up that did the trick ;).
Bunch of twin turbo cars (ss's, vettes, etc.) and some other sweet rides were there as well. Kind of a downer when you do so much work to your car only to be the slowest car in the parking lot, but there's always next year :-).
I even stayed to watch the 331 stroker w/ the s-trim lay down 530+ rwhp. That thing flat out hauls ass.
Greg and Phil were more than accommodating and they did an awesome job. Hell, I left at 10:45pm and they were still going strong so they could get folks ready for the track today (Saturday). If that's not great customer service and dedication, I dunno what is. I couldn't recommend those guys more.
s_willis 05-10-2003, 05:40 PM Sound like you've got a real winner on your hands there Bub. I know you've got an A3 but what are you running for gears now? And what tires on the back. I'll plug those numbers in and see what kind of ET my Desktop Drag comes up with.
Skip
OOPPS forgot, What converter?

OOPPS forgot, What converter? Well, the converter is a 2800-3000 stall, I ran it on Street tires...245/16/50 and the gear is now a 3.42 to give me a few more MPH on the highway without reving to the moon. Once the 9 Inch is done, I will have two center sections. One for the strip and one for the street. Let me know what it spits out with that info.
Chris Ja 05-11-2003, 06:58 AM Sorry I didn't make it. As soon as I got out of bed my wife had me doing things. At 4:00PM I jumped on 696 heading to Canton and it hit me that I didn't make it. Man was I pissed.
Did you get the pics? Anyway I still have not gotten a date to pu the car from the guy with the trailer. I will let you know.:)
Redbird 05-12-2003, 11:22 AM Get that torque converter locking and you will be more on a par with the 6 sp. cars as far as drivetrain loss. I love it when mine locks because baby... we just hit forth gear, LOCKED and can MPH with the stick cars. JMHO! :)
HInk (Lookin' for a consistant 11.50 car on a 50 HP N2O hit)
