Power is good, Stealth Ram good?

Is the Holley Stealth Ram really as good as the advertisers say?

"Holley's initial chassis dyno tests showed horsepower gains of 62 horsepower at 5200 rpm over the stock TPI!"

Does anyone have one? Does it actually make the TPI as strong, if not stronger, than an LT1?

Is it extremely difficult to install?

Something just seems odd to me that a "bolt on" would add 62 horse without opening the engine. Almost too good to be true.

:start magazine racing...

240 horse stock
+ 62 Stealth Ram = $600 (shipping etc)
+ 20ish for Exhaust = $200 (headers)
= 320 horse = Ls1 territory for $800???? <-- crackweed impossible figure?

Yes I'm dreaming, I have $20 in my car mod fund.

Thing is...It's advertized just how the MiniRam was advertized by TPIS.

A TPI Motor might make 240hp at 4500RPM and 190hp at 5200RPM

A StealthRam might make 220hp @ 4500rpm and 250hp @ 5200rpm..

What it WILL do is make the powerband larger I'm pretty sure. TPIS used to claim 95+ HP just from an intake MiniRam swap If I remember correctly. They said the gain was well over 6000RPM of course;) Not only are we talking different rpm ranges but entirely different powerbands.

Now if you installed a StealthRam or MiniRam, you'll probably end up with a quicker car 1/4mile-wise. A few tenths quicker and some extra MPH but all of a sudden:) you have a camshaft that wasn't designed to go past 5000RPM. So a Camshaft change would help out a lot to make more power in the upper rpm range that you'll be seeing with the stealthram. Increasing the 1-2 shift rpm is a SWEET sweet way to make your car quicker at the track also with the 700-R4. It helps the engine stay in the powerband as much as possible when second gear engages. TPI cars themselves can USUALLY benefit by manually shifting 1-2 at 5500RPM instead of 4500 or 5000RPM. When second gear comes you'll understand why:) No bog:D Goodluck! Hopefully you've seen all of the magazine installs that list ALL of the fittings and stuff needed.

And of course it doesn't make your engine better than an LT1, because they have a little better camshaft, Aluminum heads with more compression and newer technology in the port designs..

Same goes for the LS1. Your car won't turn into a 15 degree aluminum headed beast with more compression, much longer rods, a huge camshaft(in comparion),a different firing order, a more powerful ignition system, and port flow numbers that are better than NASCAR engines had just a few years ago:) haha

A bit of advice: You do not make Horsepower by Addition. By this I mean you CAN NOT add up every part you install and say it equals this Horsepower.

Sure you can. By my reconning, I could buy some parts and with what the manufacturer says, tell my buddies that I have 1000 HP. Just add up the power based on the stickers and you will see.

It makes that power as advertised. HOWEVER, it will do it under certain conditions as you can see in the fine print.

I had the SLP cold air induction kit and the SLP eprom chip and did not feel the difference. SLP tech line said something like 20 HP for this and 30 for that which should give me 50 HP and I should be able to feel that. BTW, the dragstrip did not agree with any of the additions either.

Ahhh all I can say is "THANKS!" for saving me $600. I realize you can't just add up #'s and say "That is my total horsepower." <--- ricer move :p :D Mods overlap etc, but IF, and I say IF the stealth ram made a wide powerband 60 horse improvement, I'm sure you can agree a nice header would probably add close to 20 hopefully. I think I'll write Holley a nice email and ask to see a stock TPI dyno sheet before and after Stealth Ram. Would probably be funny if nothing else.

Now none of us said it was a scam!! hahaha If I was working with a TPI setup, I would definately be doing either a StealthRam or an LT1 Intake swap. Both are seriously good ways to build power higher up and the cost isn't that of a MiniRam or an accell SuperRam. Goodluck man.

Well I wrote an email to Holley. I'm really curious what the dyno sheet looks like.

Of course, since the TPI already cranks out 350 lbs of torque, if it could breath up high...
