"My civic has a better handling than your Camaro on the road." This is what my neighbor said to me last time we talked about Import vs. American Car. HEHEHE. Seriously, what do you guys think about that???

4 Door '90 civic stock have more handling than 3rd gen Z-28!!!???Klendathu 05-01-2003, 09:17 PM "My civic has a better handling than your Camaro on the road." This is what my neighbor said to me last time we talked about Import vs. American Car. HEHEHE. Seriously, what do you guys think about that??? iroc4ever 05-01-2003, 09:46 PM I woulda laughed in his face. Is his car covered with hp adding stickers as well?? AutoRoc 05-01-2003, 11:50 PM Looking at the facts, his car is probably around 2500lbs vs your 3500lbs. His car has 6 years worth of new technology in the suspension design(maybe more) and if he's a typical import guy his car is lowered making the center of gravity better... Now what's wrong if his car handles better? My IROC-Z is lowered with Koni yellow shocks, Spohn sway bars, and tires that have a 50 treadware rating made specifically for competition use(road courses and auto-x)...I don't cry when I get my ass handed to me at a local auto cross race by a Mazda Miata or a BMW Roadster with a more agile car and an equal driver. I just realize that I own a full sized car and not a lightweight cramped sports car. Then I ask them what it runs in the 1/4 mile and they pipe down.:) Now on a larger road course I could hold my own better since agility is less important and power, grip, and chassis setup comes into play. Your buddy might just have a better handling car that gets better gas mileage...So what. Would you be caught dead driving something like that? Hell no I say:D later man dewey316 05-02-2003, 07:53 AM its BS, i did a quick google search, now these numbers are going to be a little diffrent for his car but anyway.... '94 civic SI .78 Lateral G's of all the ocivics listed n this guys page that was the HIGHEST, but they all ranged from 93-97 and that was the only Si, the rest were dx, lx, ect. but we can safely that your z28 in stock for pulled at least .8 on the skid pad and it is more likely .85-.89 when it was new, some later thirdgens pulled up to .92 in factory form. irocz8957 05-02-2003, 08:16 AM im sure the piece of **** just put some lowering springs on his car and thinks hes all hot ****, tell him to prove it go out and outhandle his ass and tell him whats up! Jim85IROC 05-02-2003, 10:41 AM Take him for a ride in your car and he'll shut up fast. Those civics had soft sloppy suspensions (after all, they ARE an economy car aimed at a female market). Even the SI wasn't worth a damn. The IROC handles much better than people seem to realize. .90 G's on the skidpad with 18 year old 16" rubber. With modern rubber, assuming your suspension is still in like-new condition, you can get some wicked skidpad numbers. I've watched enough autocrossing events to watch thirdgens make civics their bitch. The only FWD cars that ever did better in the autocrossing than f-bodies were usually neons. Now, if you move off of a tiny tight SCCA parking lot course into a higher speed, larger road course or street type situation, the gap will get even greater. On a road course there are very few stock FWD cars that can stay anywhere near a stock IROC. Klendathu 05-02-2003, 12:46 PM Hahaha That's what I thought guy. :) as i said, his car is a 4 door stock with no mirroir on the passenger side, 2 speaker radio, no RPM, manual windows, when you said, stock! it is, only got a sterring, an engine and a heater. BTW will got soon a new paint, new t-tops and door rubber, and a brand new floors panels on my car next week !!! and a new 350 HO engine that will follow soon. DAMN was only on a little 305 stock 4 barrel with only 150 hp and i will go up to 330hp, can't wait to see the diffrence... :) Later Guys..... jp2002ls1 05-02-2003, 01:04 PM I agree with AUTOROC, I have been to autocross races where Miatas and stuff were keeping up with my cars on the tiny tight courses where you can't get any speed but definately on a nice road course I would give the lead to the third gen. What some of these pesky import drivers forget to realize is that yes a midget car can make it through a little maze better but the 3rd gen can't use its power unless you get to a real course, also on the road you do need some weight to keep your car planted, I've seen plenty of imports hit a pothole and lose control where as a real car could handle it. I only wish they could have some combined competitions, autocross and drag race and use a combined score! zulater91 05-02-2003, 02:40 PM this might but some what out of the subject but what about 3rd gen vs. 4th gen on handeling. dewey316 05-02-2003, 02:56 PM Originally posted by zulater91 this might but some what out of the subject but what about 3rd gen vs. 4th gen on handeling. apples adn oranges. on paper thirdgens handle better, this is due to the higher spring rates. the 4th gens are much more comfy to drive at th same handling level due to the design of the front suspension. aklim 05-02-2003, 02:57 PM On a really tight course with average drivers, probably. On a wider course, I doubt it. Probably because the car is shorter, it could do better in a really tight course at a parking lot. Take it to Road America or something like that and you will be able to read a long novel in some of the turns in his little car. zulater91 05-02-2003, 03:11 PM Originally posted by dewey316 apples adn oranges. on paper thirdgens handle better, this is due to the higher spring rates. the 4th gens are much more comfy to drive at th same handling level due to the design of the front suspension. so what your saying the 3rd gens can out perform the 4th gens in handling but at a cost of a more rugged ride, i can settle for that bring on the the turns :) Jim85IROC 05-02-2003, 03:44 PM Originally posted by zulater91 this might but some what out of the subject but what about 3rd gen vs. 4th gen on handeling. can-o-worms. This has been discussed a hundred times. 4th genners think theirs is better, thirdgenners think theirs are better. My take is that the thirdgen handles better, especially considering that you're comparing a car with 16" wheels vs. a car with 17" wheels. The 85 IROC pulled a .90 on the skidpad way back in 84 on 16" Goodyear Gatorbacks. If you can even find a fourth gen that can pull a .90, I guarantee it won't do it with 16" gatorbacks. But... the 4th gens handle very well, and they ride FAR FAR FAR better than a thirdgen. For a daily driver, the 4th gen is much more comfortable. My GTA is the worst riding car I've ever driven. It's like driving a dump truck. doug791 05-02-2003, 10:49 PM i say buy a nice dual spring race suspension package and then tool anyone with vaguely stock parts. But thats just how i see things steve10358 05-04-2003, 02:59 AM Seeing this doesn't have much to do with tech talk...I am going to close it. Many people have different opinions. :) Steve | ||
