Does Key Fob trick work on 2001s?

Does this trick work for any year other than 99's? I've been trying to get it to work on my 2001 so I can program the remote but it doesn't lock and unlock the doors when I turn the key 3 times (step 5). I've tried turning the key both ways to see if maybe I had the run position confused with something else but it still doesn't seem to work. Can anyone tell me what I might be doing wrong?

its tells you how to do it in the owners manual, I did it before but it was a long time ago so I don't remember. Use the manual, its a better source then some webstite, worked fine for me...

Unfortunately my car didn't come with a manual so I can't look it up. :(
