Josh-'04 GTO 04-30-2003, 05:08 PM Are you referring to RAD Auto Machine in Ludlow....they did the machine work and parts ordering for my stroker. Spending a few thousand bucks is always a good way to get the inside scoop! ;) I know he is planning to have it by June/July. That will be very handy as he is about 15 minutes from my house!:) bowtiepwr 04-30-2003, 08:05 PM >Yes ... that is the shop . I hope they are a good shop since they are now doing my new engine once I get a full refund from Nick Norris (Nu-Tek Motorsports) since the short block they built for me only got delivered loose in a crate . I'm not saying it's their fault , but after paying in full ($4800.00 +) and not receiving the "goods" for almost a year ... makes you want to go with someone else . I will probably post my sob story later in the Lounge after I get my refund . But I bet I'm the one who's had a problem with Nu-Tek Motorsports (I still believe they have qualitiy merchandise , but a real lack of customer service) . 96Z28SS 05-01-2003, 04:02 PM I don't understand what the problem is for not using this engine that got bounced around a bit in a crate. What exactly broke? the oil pan got dented a bit i bet. nothing internally in the engine would be damaged. Why not have an engine shop open it up and check the clearances check the crank and send the bill to Nu-tek instead of refunding the entire engine AND wait another year for a motor. The block is cast iron, it takes ALOT, I MEAN ALOT to break it. I hope your kidding ... right  first - it was a short block (no oil pan) , second - I would'nt trust an engine that got bounced around especially one that will get supercharged , third - I didn't think it was going to take so long with Nu-Tek or I would have brought it to a local machine shop if they (Nu-tek authorized it) ... and last - I cancelled it because the engine has been paid in full since October November , but my car still has no 396 in it . I would send numerous e-mails (example 4 last time) and never get a reply ... all I wanted was to be kept in the "loop" for any delays or problems concerning my investment . [/B] Don at RAD had all my machine work done and rotating assembly in and balanced in about two weeks or so. Time really wasn't an issue. Everything was ready for me to assemble in a flash.:thumb: bowtiepwr 05-02-2003, 06:03 AM >Great I'm glad there is someone out there that takes their job seriously . I was there last tuesday talking to them .I will definately go with them since they are a local shop and all I've heard is good things about them ... but all I've heard were good things about Nu-tek too  . I can't wait to get my refund from Nick so I can order the Callies "Dragon Slayer" kit from FlatLander Racing . 96Z28SS 05-02-2003, 08:50 AM I thought it was a long block. I would have taken to a shop to have it dissassembled and checked if there was any damage then it would be Nutek's responsibility to pay for it to be fixed or refunded at that time. Where is the block now? Did Nu-tek refund the money? Let me know I'll buy the short block. Rob bowtiepwr 05-02-2003, 09:38 AM Originally posted by 96Z28SS I thought it was a long block. I am waiting for the refund so I can have someone who won't "D!ck me around" build it . If I would have sent it to a local shop it would have come out of pocket (mine) since it was a shippers error it was the responsibility of the shipping company's insurance to pay to have it returned to Nu-tek . Not to include shipping or core the short block was $4374.45 . I don't think I have a problem with their workmanship , but mainly their customer service , since they would not return your emails and they seldom answer their phone . I feel like Marc with the Quest Racing "problem" ... many had good experiance with and a few had problems .You would think that I would have been kept up to date with the "situation" of the product that has been paid for in whole , or atleast answer e-mails . JeffsWorld 05-02-2003, 10:27 PM whereabouts in Ludlow? do they do much work on late-model efi cars? bowtiepwr 05-03-2003, 04:09 PM Originally posted by JeffsWorld whereabouts in Ludlow? do they do much work on late-model efi cars? >They are located on Ravenwood Dr. Not to far from route 20 (Boston Rd) Wilbraham . If your heading towards Springfield (rt 20) you take the turn off into Ludlow before the railroad bridge . are you lost yet ;) . 5-liter-eater 05-03-2003, 04:49 PM well I had my LS6 come directly from GM and a friggin main cap bolt was snapped right off, didnt concern rob or dean and my block has been honed, balanced and all forged internals and has zero problems so far. Just have them check it why send it back. Make them pay for anythings thats found? And a shortblock that cost 4800? You got punked. I have a Ls6 shortblock that cost less than that? bowtiepwr 05-03-2003, 06:58 PM Originally posted by 5-liter-eater well I had my LS6 come directly from GM and a friggin main cap bolt was snapped right off, didnt concern rob or dean and my block has been honed, balanced and all forged internals and has zero problems so far. I have a Ls6 shortblock that cost less than that? >You are probably the biggest dork on this site  As for sending it to a shop locally ... well it's up to the engine builder (Nu-tek) whether he will (would have) paid for a local inspection of the short block or not ! Since it was the shipping companies fault the only peron(s) that had to pay was the shipper , it was covered under their insurance . If I had known it would have taken another year (exaggeration) I would have bit the bullet and sent it to RAD here in Ludlow to inspect it . As far as getting "PUNKED" well let's just say that this is about an average cost for a custom built short block . I'm sure if I'm wrong then I'll hear it from the other guys too ;) . Josh-'04 GTO 05-03-2003, 10:59 PM If all the components and machine work are top notch, then $4800 is not out of the question. More than I would spend though... BTW, a stock LS6 shortblock had BETTER be cheaper than an all forged, precision built race shortblock! 96Z28SS 05-04-2003, 12:07 AM NEDYNO built the LS6 Shortblock all forged, balanced and blue printed shortblock for less than $4800. I think thats what he ment by you getting punked. But the LT1's are more expensive to build then the LS1. I would like to see someone get it , so I can see if it's me with that block or everyone with that block that get's all the delays :) . I was checking all the part #'s that were provided to me for the shortblock build up and I can get it a little cheaper than the price I had Nu-tek build it for ... he is kind of pricey . BTW the $4800.00 was shipping plus core charge of $350.00 , and short block . I believe that $4300.00 was the actual price . 5-liter-eater 05-05-2003, 09:10 AM Originally posted by bowtiepwr >You are probably the biggest dork on this site  As for sending it to a shop locally ... well it's up to the engine builder (Nu-tek) whether he will (would have) paid for a local inspection of the short block or not ! You have never met me then. Jesus I wasnt bashing man. Just stating a fact, giving you some info or something. ps - Call me a dork to my face bro, I guarantee you wont as so much look my way, be careful who you knock, some of us arent so civil. That was uncalled for. 9SECONDLX 05-05-2003, 11:13 AM first i want to state i have never dealt with RAD. i did a lot of research when I was looking to get my mustang motor done a few years back. i talked to a lot of people and I have friends who are dealers (not ed) in the spfld area who will not send any work to them. they all had a lot of problems with them. as far as workman ship and engine failure these motors were regular v8's. never mind a stroked LT1 motor. I also have a close friend who had a 427 rebuilt for his afx car and he had to have the motor redone by someone else. i also almost bought a car that had a motor done by them. the reason the car was so cheap is they screwed the motor up in that car. andre, one of the best engine builders in north american is in ellington CT. I would contact Les at Horsepower engineering. They build serious motors for drag, road and busch north cars. They are a little more expensive but they do everthing in house and its done right. thats good to know about them getting a dyno though. good luck and sorry to here about your old motor. bowtiepwr 05-05-2003, 06:51 PM Originally posted by 5-liter-eater Whoa! Whoa! I hope my stroker doesn't turn into an expensive boat anchor!:( Don at RAD really seems to know his stuff, but maybe some of his workers aren't on par. 96Z28SS 05-10-2003, 12:32 AM i didn't know you already had sent it back i thought you were still waiting to here from them and maybe working something out. If you still had it in your possesion I would of went and picked it up and given you the money. I hope you have some good luck with your new motor. Rob P.S. I know things haven't worked out for ya and you may be upset but you shouldn't be called people names in here, we are all grown up around here there is just no need for it. Plus I have heard other members say in person they thought you were a dork. They just didn't have the balls to say it here. bowtiepwr 05-10-2003, 07:37 AM Originally posted by 96Z28SS I know things haven't worked out for ya and you may be upset but you shouldn't be called people names in here, we are all grown up around here there is just no need for it. So since you called me a "dork" should I challenge you to a meeting in the school playground ? maybe 20 paces with pistols ? I like to believe that I am above that and the only time I will use force is to protect what is mine (family, self, and especially the Camaro) . I'm not a big guy , but I can bite a mean ankle ;) . When you start calling people a punk , then shouldn't all calls towards decency be lifted ? When you dish it out ... then you should be able to take it too . As for other members considering me a dork then they must not know me then usually it obnoxious . enough on this subject . Does anyone from the western part of this state plan on using this dyno ? 5-liter-eater 05-10-2003, 10:20 AM Originally posted by bowtiepwr >Thanks for the advice , and I welcome your pitty :) . as for me being a "DORK" I can live with that it's not like I am married to you or you pay my salary ... wait a minute you do pay my salary :) . Nice obscure referance  I never said you were a punk??? I said you got punked as in "sounded like a high price" ITs no biggie I can take being called names but lets remember who called who something, I never said anything about you, maybe you took it that way:confused: We can square it away at the next dyno day. I will have either a blower or nitrous on with the stroker by the time the dyno opens up so I'll need to tune my car. My brother's nitroused '94 Z will be there frequently as well. | ||
