SCDA track day

Anyone going up to New Hampshire International for the SCDA track day on May 22nd?

I will be there and so will my friend Brian with a black 99 WS6 T/A.

We went last year for the first time and had a blast. We will be in the novice group again this year.

Check out www.scda1.com. Basically, you go up to New Hampshire International Speedway and race around a track (with an instructor in your car if you're a novice).

So it's a good time then? I'd really like to haul around at 100+ legally! Any suggestions on anything to bring or modify before doing this? It'll be my first time up there. Maybe a few of us can meet up?

Have EVERYTHING removed from your car before you go. This means make sure the glove box, console, trunk area are empty. They even have you remove your floor mats.

They will inspect the car and make sure your brake fluid is a nice clear/gold color. If it looks dark now, you should go out and replace it with new DOT 4 fluid.

I was a ****load of fun last year, that is why we are coming back for more this year. :)

You're going again!! I thought you and your brother had sworn it off for good :)

I want to get some track days but picking up the Z has depleted some of the racing funds so I may have to wait till fall to get in on some events.

Lotsa fun...wasn't crazy about the SCDA longer sessions tho, took alot out of the car and driver.

It is a blast and before you know it you'll be hooked!

Everything John said. Technically you're supposed to do a tech inspection and fill out the tech form before you show up (its not a bad idea to check out your brakes and tires-- bleed brakes, check tire pressure, and check pads). Make sure you bring a helmet, otherwise you won't be able to run.

Additionally you will run rain or shine, so bring the appropriate weather gear. No polyester clothing, or anything with red or yellow on it (color of flags). Bring wated and sunscreen and some spare tools (tire gauge is important).

One HUGE important thing is to NOT set your parking brake after racing as you can fuse the pads to the rotor or cause warping (just leave it in gear pop the hood and let it be).

I went to the Justin Bell driving school last fall and drove Z06's and Camaro SS's around for 3 days. The best part was I was beating on some one else's car. :) What a difference between driving the SS and the Z06. Night and day. The Z06 makes it seem like the F-body's handle like ****. :(

I am glad to hear you stepped up to a Z06 Nabbs, you will enjoy it on the track. That might be my next car. :)

John, now is the time to step up to a SLP Handling package with the Bilstiens and get some aftermarket WS6 Wheels(also on Sale from SLP) and some nice sticky tires. Then hit the track. ;)

If there is one in the fall and you guys all go, I will go up and watch ya. I am just WAY too busy at work right now. Have fun guys!

I am definately signing up for the August event at NHIS.

I want to get back to LimeRock and the Glen.

NHIS is getting old, I've been there almost 10 times now. Ok, its not really getting old, but its definately not as fast of a track as the other two (LRP has a sweet straight and the Glen has the most elevation changes of any track iirc).

I'm sorry Sally won't be going :)

Have you thought about any other events this year?

As for the Z vs. Fbody, honestly there is no comparison in the handling dept. I always wondered what instructors meant when they told me the Hawk was heavy. This thing just eats up curves. It is, without a doubt, one of the easiest cars to drive (and race). Besides, what other mnfr sells you a car with a video explaining how to set the car up for racing and how to drive for racing :)

I'm jealous about the Justin Bell school. Steve (the guy with the Black WS6 with 180 degree sticker from spinning at the Glen) moved to LA, so one of these days when I go out to visit him we're going to that school.

Nabbs, the Justin Bell school is located in Florida, not california.

How long of drive is it to the two other courses compared to NHIS? I would like to try out the other courses some time.

Chris, the new shocks and tires would help my car but wouldn't bring it up close to the ZO6 handling. I would be better off selling my car and getting the ZO6. ( I am trying to talk myself into it )

True, very true. You better hurry, you have 5 days left for 0% financing. Chances are the dealer will give you about $17K for your car. Crazy. Nabbs might be able to help you out there. He knows a dealer dying for those cars. He doesn't want mine though. :cry:

I've heard that these track days can really screw up your car. Is that true? I have all stock suspension and brakes, but c'mon, they're built for this! Have I been misinformed? :confused:

It is a lot of wear and tear on the tires and brakes but they can be replaced. :) I was a little nervous about beating the car but I think the car is designed to handle it.

You are doing 30 minute runs with a hour to cool down between runs. It is the most fun you can have with these cars in a LEGAL enviroment.
