Dealerships price their cars so high because they are "certified." They fix them up and do a lot of work on them to make sure they will last a long time. But $27K for that car is insane!

Where I live, Northern California, the prices for cars are very high. I bought my 99 Z28 w/ 40,000 miles for $16,100. Other places, I could of bought an SS with the same amount of miles for a couple grand less. My car did have an extended warantee and some bolt ons so it wasn't a bad deal.

Look on Autotrader for a private seller and you might have to drive a couple hours to get a good deal.

Good luck!!!

I live in the Orlando area and I've found that different dealers charge different prices. Here's a great example of a dealer who didn't know how to price a car. This car was a '99 Camaro, V6, 5 spd., roll-up windows, wheel covers, basically a stripped car for $15,995!! This was back in October '02. This car stayed at this dealership for months. I felt like telling the sales manager to lower his price and he'll sell it, but he can figure that out.

$27K for that TransAm is pretty expensive, especially for that mileage. That same car in Orlando will probably be around $22-24K. A good amount of Z28s around here are priced around $16-17K.

I've found that Mustangs are VERY cheap in central FL. Newer GTs are around $12-$13K and you can get a newer V6 for under $10K.

I bought my 99 Z28 w/ 40,000 miles for $16,100

That's pretty high. My car was $14,000 and it had 40,900 miles on it when I bought it, and it has EVERY option except the 6 spd. and is in excellent condition.

For CA it probably is a fairly good price, I guess... Every area is different, you know. ;)

Hmmm... When was that? I paid 14.8 for my 00 in the sig 6 weeks ago w/35K miles. And it's loaded, too. ;)

EDIT: Oh yeah..., the original question... Prices here in North TX vary a lot. Every now and then you can find a 00 T/A's in the 20K range and SS's a bit cheaper. 01's and 02's are in the low to mid 20's. Of course once in a while there are those dealers who price them out of that range, too.

Right now Reliable Chevrolet in Richardson, Texas (http://www.dallaschevy.com) has an 02 Ram Air w/26K miles for $27K and a 00 SS w/36K miles for 21K. Classic Chevrolet in Grapevine, Texas (http://www.classicchevytexas.com) has a bunch of 00 and up T/A's starting from 19K.

Also, while I was looking for my car, I found out that a very good tool for searching dealer inventories online is Get Auto.com (http://www2.getauto.com/index.html).

Later! ;)

They are higher than market value in my area ( www.edmunds.com ), so I'm going to get a 99-00 FRC C5 instead, no brainer, it is a total buyers market for C5s right now. There is a 99 black/black FRC with a cage and a couple thousand in mods asking 24k, 50k miles. Some Z06s are touching low 30s.

One of the ladies in our club traded in her 2001 WS6 for a truck (at least she kept the Z28 and the 'Vette) I talked to the dealer today since a friend of mine was looking for a car like mine, which is what she traded.

2001 TransAm WS6, Black, M6, only mod is a cutout, 18K miles.

Dealer asking $28,000, sold it Wednesday for $25,000

=======

In June 2001, I paid $26K for a 2001 WS6, M6, Black, LOADED with literally EVERY option except a drop-top.

I got my 99 Z28 6sp w/33K loaded T-tops for 13,900 in Cali.They were asking 16,900.
The TAs are always a little more expensive than the Z28s,cuz thier more classy and better looking IMO.For instance when I was looking I found at a dealer in Cali a 96 TA they were asking 12,995.
Cali prices are insane but not concrete. When searching Auto trader back east prices are alot lower this area price difference is lame also IMO.
Docs getting a Vette:cool:
scottslt1z28,Auto trader is your best bet not to mention most dealers have internet prices when advertized on the trader.
Good luck
