wheelies

I had a friend ask be about how much power it would take in one of our cars to pull a wheelie, figured you drag racing guys might know. Any info?

it isnt so much as how much HP,it's how well the chassis works.

My car is a bolt on car,might make 310rwhp n/a........it has pulled the left front tire. There is a good shot with the tire in the air in the GMHTP magazine article.

Also on the nitrous it will pull the drivers side tire damn near 10" up.

My car doesnt even get close, as evident in the GMHTP magazine as well. Strange, aint it?

it doesnt take too much to do it. the auto guys tend to do it easier though.
3,200 or higher stall,sticky tires,about 300 HP to the ground,3.73 or 4.10 gear and some skinnies will pull a tire. this does require a 1.7 or better 60' though in my experience.

it is not off but damn close. BTW, it also has 3.5" skinnies up front.

Mine will pull both wheels about 8-10 in, and I'm probably only getting 370ish at th wheels.

yes, as has been said, it's all about the susp set up and chasis. in the GMHT article with those 10-11 LT1s, there were 13 second cars with prolly 300 or less HP pulling the left front.

if you're talking about getting both off the ground a noticable amount, i would say a 400ish HP car with the right set up could yank 'em pretty good.


here's a pic of my A4 car with a 150 shot right out of the gate, but LEAVING OFF IDLE with 2.73s:D didnt quite get the left front off the ground, but DAMN close:)

With a good combination of converter, chassis, suspension, etc you can easily pull the fronts with 375 - 400 flywheel ponies. My bracket motor is actually pretty mild but it pulls the front up pretty good.

I don't wanna be a smart 'A' here but HP has very little to do with tire up launches... it's TORQUE and suspension/tires.

And... the reason A4 guys do it easier is TORQUE CONVERTERS.
We CAN make more torque on launch than M6 cars if we have a higher TORQUE ratio'ed converter.

Now this is where it gets above my head but... my new converter will have a TSR of 4200 rpm, up from last years 3000. The new converter has a TORQUE multiplication of 2.77, up from -+2.50
of last years. Somewhere in the RPM band from idle to 4200 RPM
the converter will multiply the engine torque by 2.77. THAT is what raises tires, traction permitting. M6 cars can use heavier flywheels to get a somewhat simalar reaction, but it is only due to the not so rapid rate of flywheel slowdown.

Last years combo was lifting the tires about 3" and carring them 6-10 feet. This years converter should make a BIG difference and wheelies more noticable. :eek:
This is just a high 11 second car, 3460 with me in it and N/A.
