VE tables and increasing displacement

Ive been looking through a bunch of OBDI files and OBDII files and it seems that some people like to mess with the VE tables and some dont....Is this related to the fact that some like to change the cylinder volume when increasing displacement and some dont?

This has been a heated discussion on the LT-1 Edit mailing list and the general concensus is that the VE tables are only used in speed density mode. Some people will tune the car in MAF mode until it's where they want it and then tune the VE tables in SD mode until it runs about the same that way they are safe if the MAF ever dies.

Interesting...thanks.:) Where in the program can the increased displacement be made up at if the cylinder volume isnt changed?

I don't have my LT-1 Edit handy, but there is a box on the same page as the injector constant that has engine size in cubic inches available to change.

Is this only on Lt-1 edit? The engine displacement box that is? I'm trying to figure out what program to get before i do any tuning, I will be new at it but not new and messing with motors.. Reason I ask is if i get tuner cat (cheap) I will need to change the displacement for one of the cars I mess with.

TunerCat has the ability to change the cylinder volume too. It's listed in mL. I think stock is around 717 or so.

This is completely separate from VE tables. It would just be a coincidence that those with strokers tune VE tables, in my opinion.

So is it better to leave the VE tables stock and change the displacement, or leave the displacement stock and change the VE tables?

IMO, it's not an "either or". Definitely change the cylinder volume value if yours is different than stock!

Then, if you're running speed denisty mode, tweak the VE tables, starting with VEmaster, then by hand.
