Dodge Viper to be offered in the new Hemi???
I was surfing thru google last night looking for new hemi powered rwd cars. When I came across a few message site like this one. One of the threads was about DCX wanting to bring the Viper to a larger customer base. It seems like we might see a 6.0L or larger hemi in a mid 50k Viper. Wouldnt thios also bring down the price of the v10? WHat have you guys heard on this subject?
Suggesting that Viper step down a notch to sell more units is like some here that were suggesting Corvette be offered with a V6 and priced around 30-35k.
That wouldn't happen for a whole slew of reasons.
I doubt they will offer Viper with a V8 in a more "affordable" package. Viper owners don't want their car "watered down", I don't think DCX wants to go that route, and if you're going to offer a V8 and price it around 50k, you know what tough territory you're playing in then....

i think DCX has been taking serious losses on the viper, and are probably trying to think of some ways to get at least a little money back...but i agree, put it in something like a new charger...
If anyone says the Viper is going to have a Hemi V8 to boost sales, tell them I think they really need to lay off whatever medication they are on!
1. Chrysler is selling every single solitary Viper they can possibly produce. How do you think they were able to continue to sell essentially the same car for 10 years. They even had to stop new orders well in advance of the end of the previous Viper's end of production.
2. Viper means V10 just like Corvette means V8. Think about a V6 powered Z28. Got the picture?
3. I'm sure Chrysler is going to go through the effort of certifying a V8 for the Viper, including crash testing (different weight & crush characteristics of the V8 vs the V10), duribility testing, and a whole host of other issues just to drop the price to what? $65,000 or so (Vipers are now in the mid $80s). Does anyone really think price is an issue when someone is spending that much on a car? At that price, people are buying a name, like Porsche, M5, and... Viper. Cheapening it 20 grand (likely less) will only **** people off, without bringing any new customers.
4. Finally, to ad another nail in the "This is totally ridiciulous coffin, the Viper engine is basically an aluminum, high performance version of the old 360 engine, with 2 more cylinders added on. It probally costs Chrysler just as much to make the Viper engine (if not notably less) than it costs to make the new Hemi engine, which has only just begun to earn back it's development costs.
A V8 Viper is the work of someone's imagination.

There was a thread on corvetteforum.com that talked about a inside rumor that mentioned a lower priced Viper. Thing is, I don't think it meant going to a V8, but just making the V10 Viper as we know it now cheaper. Most of the people along with myself didn't really buy it. As guionM stated, its just not make $$$ sense.
Will we get a 2 DOOR cpe. With the new Hemi in it? Its what Ford And GM needs. Something to keep them on there heels. Why can't DCX put the new Hemi in the crossfire? They could have made a real car, but we get a prowler all over again. No thanks. Mabe we can get a v8 Solstise or sister car from GM. for a shade under 30 grand.
