my car runs like a 6 banger! WTF

just installed hotcam kit, jethot long tubes, true dual exhaust,
now it runs like crap at the track. launch feels good, with lots of spin. runs smooth but power just isnt there, or its spining all the way down the track(tires are not the best for traction) goodyear F1 EMT 18s

car felt like it was running real strong when i first did the swap
but about 100 miles later and a trip to the track not so good.

its getting an intermitent light backfire on deceleration
and not pulling good till it hits about 4000rpm . idle is pretty smooth considering the cam.
it has the sock tune.
we removed the AIR and the EGR
maybe a bad 02? how can i get that tested

any other thoughts?

oh yeah best time at the track was a 15.66

R/T 1.083
60 2.465
330 6.741
1/8 10.195
MPH 70.85
1000 13.170
1/4 15.663
MPH 89.54

could this be tune related??
not to mention tires or clutch??

thanks

I would check the routing on your sparkplug wires to make sure none are burning on your new headers...
It's been know to happen...

No need in breaking in the cam. It's roller. Either your timing is way off, when you did the install, or your getting massive knock.

i installed an LT4 knock module, so prob isnt that.

timing could be off but, cam was installed straight up, can you adjust the timing externally? without getting back into the engine?

think we found the problem today!

a bad fuel press. regulator
and a real clogged up fuel filter.

press. at the schrader valve showed about 20#s with the car on but not running
bypassed the FPR and it shot up to over 70#s not running

hope ta hell this is it!

well, after 2 weeks of putting in new FPR, new Fuel filter, new Fuel Injectors and waiting on my PCM reprogram(PCM4Less)
i decided to go out and check for any vacuum leaks one more time. while i was checkin things out i ran my hand under 4-6 primary header tube (where the wires for 6-8 are tucked up)
iand i felt that the wire for #8 was fried in half!!
so i said cool, this is the problem. well after making sure the rest of the wires were good and connected properly, i twisted on #8
plug boot and seen that the letters NGK on the plug moved with the boot! so istarted to pull the plug and only like 2 threads where threaded!

car runs 100% better now even with a half fried wire on #8.

no wonder it was runnin like crap. im gonna kill my mechanic!
it sucks to know that i spent about $500 only to find out it was just a loose plug and a burnt wire.

PCM is on the way ,so it should be runnin like it should in a few days

car is so much quieter(if you can say that true duals through dynomax bullets is quiet!) now

moral of the story: check your damn plugs and wires when doing a header swap!
