1st track run

Ran the 95 Trans Am yesterday for the first time.
Just hit 104k miles(bought new). No mods, A4, GSC tires. It ran
14.50 @ 96mph. Track is at 2700ft here in Idaho. My wife did the
driving. I ran my 68 Camaro last year, so it is her turn now. She is hooked, wants that 100 mph club sticker. Would a CAI and Cat back exhaust get her there? We had a 7yr/100k warranty that ran out last August. Time to mod and race this year! She let the trans do the shifting, best reaction time of .567 on a .500 tree. She'd slay em with consistancy. All 3 runs were within .03/sec.

That's good for stock at your altitude.
As a general rule of thumb for every additional 10hp you'll gain 1mph and for every 100 lbs of weight removal you'll get 1mph.
So you're looking at 40hp more, 400lbs less, or any combination of the two to get 100mph in the same weather conditions as the 96mph.

I think you'll need to do a full exhaust an CAI to get that half a second or 5 mph. If you do, don't forget the knock module!

What does "your car" run?

tell your wife nice job!:D those times sound about right for your elevation. a CAI and cat-back would help with 100mph sticker.


She let the trans do the shifting,

and that's the way she's going to want to keep it. dont even bother with trying to shift it 'cause it's going to shift on its own. i dont even know anyone with a BUILT tranny that shifts these. for best results, leave in drive.

What would I have to do about the knock module?
My 68 is hardly worth mentioning how it ran. I bought it 2 1/2 yrs ago from the original owners nephew. It is a numbers matching 350, HD 3 speed, 12 bolt car. The original owner had the motor rebuilt back in the 80's and is very detuned. The 12 bolt is a one legger 3.31 gear. Aside from my horrible R/T's it spun the right rear radial tire through the first 60'. I managed a 16.43@89mph. If it weren't for the ebay like prices these days I'd like to buy another 68 to build and race. Guess we'll just have to mod the 95, darn.

When your computer senses engine knock, it retards the timing to keep you from popping holes in pistons and sh1t like that. When you install headers on an F-body, and under strong acceleration they sometimes send false engine knock signals to the computer and thats not good. So the LT-4 knock module eliminates this from happening.

The elevation is killing the mph. Headers and cat back, CAI, synthetic oil, and really good air should do it.

Are you the ones with the purple TA? I have the bright blue Z28. My stock LS1 A4 ran 14.1@102 my first time so you ran well for an LT1. I'm coming out May10 for grudge night. I got a 13.45 this time around, so I'm looking for a 13.3 this time.

Yup we are the ones with the purple TA. Great runs with your Z by the way! Let the mods begin... Actually we are looking for a 68 Camaro to run next year. Hard to find one at an affordable price these days. Bought a 402 block standard bore as a starting point.
I'd like to try and get up to Firebird more this year. Working afternoons and weekends kind of get in the way. Maybe we'll seeya on the 10th though since it is 8 to midnight. Then again the tinted windows might not get us through tech. later..
