Windshield changeout
A tree smashed my w'shield to pieces and it's time to replace it. What can I use to remove the old sealant from the trim and around the body where the glass rests? What sealant should I use to install the new glass w'shield? This is my first rodeo but I fugured I can't hurt the old glass since it should come out "easily". I'm gonna use this opportunity as a learning process. Any pointers will be greatly appreciated.

For what it's worth, from what I have heard, doing the windshield yourself is problematic, because the windshield is actually structural for the body rigidity on these cars to some extent. Meaning, it can be difficult to get a new one to fit properly without it leaking. I don't know how much truth there is to that, but from my years of being on here, that's what I remember being a problem.

Windshield changeout
I got a quote earlier this year of $298 + tax w/a lifetime guarantee. That's what I normally do is spend the $$$ for a lifetime guarantee, but I do not have the car in my name yet so my homeowners policy is a moot point & thought I'd save $$$ & learn a trade. I suppose I better re-prioritize & handle the title transfer first... I have the signatures, documents, etc. but have my oldest daughter marrying next May and youngest daughter making me a grandfather (1st time) next January. That's what's taken me so long already is budgeting.

I believe all of ya'll are right. Why break from my norm and go against everyone's advice? If I'd have listened to my bride and my neighbor and moved the car when conditions changed while cutting the tree down in the first place I wouldn't be spending this $$$, which is how this happened. Thanks for the input folks! I'll be calling the glass shop to come to the house.

So this was a self-inflicted wound? Props to you for posting if it was...If I were you I would have stuck with the "freak storm story" which is what I assumed happened. No other damage besides the glass?

"freak storm story"
Not a storm, just belligerence. The tree had branches up high that flexed when it hit the ground and b***h slapped the car. I had it parked where the tree would fall @ 90 degrees away from it but ended up falling parallel to it. Videoed it all & my wife is heard goin' " OOOOOHHHHH NNNNNNOOOO" like Mr. Bill from Saturday Night Live... LOLOLOLOL. Took out the driver t-top (replaced), the passenger door (complete, & replaced), the windshield wiper & cowl on the passenger side (on my garage shelf now), slight hood damage on passenger side @ corner (replacement hood in my garage), and the windshield. To date, $455 to recuperate & windshield quoted @ $295 + tax installed w/a warranty. A good story for the grandkids.... It should be noted in my flimsy, but only, defense is the LT1 is locked up. The car only moves if pushed by people power. Water filled the oil pan and it overpressurized, causing the engine to lock up(bent rod or rods?). That was before I picked up my chainsaw & played lumberjack.
