Lightbulb What years have locking seat belts?

Hey all,
I have a 97 Z28 and I want to put a car seat in the back seat but the seat belts don't lock. I'm wondering what years have the locking seat belts so the kiddos will be a little safer. The car seat is for a 2yr and also a booster seat. Thanks

I'm not really sure any of the years have locking seatbelts. I know in at least 2002 there were some hooks added to the trunk hump for baby seats to latch onto I assume.

I always wondered what those were for.

I'm fairly certain all 4th gens have "locking" seatbelts. I know my 99 does, as did my 96.

Our cars aren't the type that lock all the time. They do lock when in a panic stop or accident though.

in an accidnt they will lock. You have to give them a sharp tug though otherwise. I am pretty sure ALL seatbelts have to lock in an accident or emergency situation. Otherwise hat would be the point of wearing them. really.

I got in the back seat and was yanking the belts out to see if they would lock. They just came out and didn't lock. Guess I have to hit the brakes and pull on the belts to see if that works.

I'm not sure about anybody else but my seat belts do NOT lock at all. The seat belts in my friends RS that I bought after he wrecked don't lock either. My friend was in the passenger seat when the car was wrecked with his seatbelt ON and he ended up smacking the dash cuz the belt didn't lock.

Sounds like they need to be replaced then. That's not safe...

Yea those are supposed to lock. especially the front ones. every car I have been in have locked. including my 3rd gen cars. It is a restraint, if it does not lock it can not restrain you. So apparently you have some defective ones, or ones that are broken.

But that's just the thing though....ive been in plenty of 4th gen fbods that the belts didn't lock.....I don't know......they made our car 150 mph capable but some of the simplest problems from the belts not locking to trunk release not wanting to open are pretty common. I guess GM just didn't think through the small things with these cars.

Thanks guys,
Now i'm having seconds thoughts about driving the little ones around in the mullet. I just checked the front seats and both do NOT lock. I was ripping on the belts like i'm trying to start a mower and nothing. Could someone with an 01/02 check their belts for me. If those lock then I'll buy a set for that year. Thanks again

I don't know crap about seat belts, but for some reason, I think the locking feature only works when you have the brake pedal down in 4th gens. I've never thought about it.
