Torq Thrust II's 17x9.5 help!

Im looking into getting Torq Thrust II's 17x9.5 for my 95 Z.. My questions are, #1. Will they rub? #2. What size tire is best? #3. What would back spacing be???

Sorry for my stupidity, but I can't find it on the board anywhere.
Thanks for the help!!!!

Yes.... 5 lugs on 4.75" circle. The 7" backspace should be fine.... the stock WS6/SS 17x9 is about 7-1/8". I have used 17x9.5's with 49mm to 56mm offset (7-1/8" to 7-3/8" backspace).

7" backspace will be fine. The conversion from "offset" to "backspace" is sort of approximate. It depends on the design of the flanges on either side of the wheel that hold the tire bead on the rim. Wheel width is specified as the distance between the inside of the flanges..... the bead width of the tire when it is mounted. The total rim width includes the bead width + the two flanges. The thickness of the flanges varies from wheel to wheel, but is usually in the range of 0.45" - 0.50".

Backspace = one half the wheel width + offset + thickness of one flange.

For a 9.5" wide wheel, with a 45mm (1.77") offset, and a 1/2" thick flange, the backspace is:

(9.5 / 2) + (45 / 25.4) + 0.50 =

4.75 + 1.77 + .50 = 7.02"

Your wheels will be moved about 1/6" further out than my old OZ Monte Carlo 17x9.5 (49mm offset) wheels:

FRONT VIEW

REAR VIEW

You won't be able to see the difference between 7" and 7-1/8" backspace.

There's a guy named Kelly Drown, who owns and operates the "Project TransAM" website, and owns a WS6 with the TTII's on them.....17x9.5 front, and 17x11 rear. You could probably verify the dimensions with him:

Kelly's WS6/TTII's

I think that is one of the meanest looking TA's I have ever seen!!!

You can e-mail him from his website:

I would probably use the 7.4 inch backspacing of the ZR1 9.5.

The 7.0 or 7.1 inch backspacing is OK for 9 inch width wheels.

Do a google search and get the dimensions of the OEM ZR1 9.5 inch wheel. But I recall it is 7.394 inches.

Here is my old 94 Trans Am Convertible with 17x9.5 TTII's and 275/40/17's all around. Perfect fitment. By the way, AR has a specific wheel for 93+ F-bodys with exactly the right backspacing, for a worry free fit, and my tires did not rub at all.

7" will be fine.

OZ 17x9.5 Monte Carlo, 7.15" BS (front & rear):

7.15" BS

7.15" BS

AFZ 17x9.5 ZR1, 7.42" BS (front only):

7.42" BS

It's hard to see the difference in the above... but I liked where the OZ's sat in the front - definitely more aggressive.... the AFS ZR1 56mm offset puts the edge of the rim extremely close to the steering knuckle. Going 1/8" out from the OZ's will not be noticable. I'm pretty sure that's what Kelly has on his WS6 in the photo linked above.

According to the American Racing website, they make the 7.0" BS for the 4th Gen F-Bodys.
