Tire size question, help!

I am soon going to buy 18" Y2K vette wheels or Z06 vette wheels for my SS, but the only size 18" drag radial that I can find is Nitto 555R 305/45R-18. I know it has a little taller sidewall and it's a little wider. Would this tire fit on a 18" x 9.5" Y2K wheel. If not how about a 18" x 10.5" Z06 wheel? My current setup is the stock silver ZR1's with Nitto 555R 175/40R-17 tires.

Whats going on John. I see your from WNY too.

Both rims will work with that tire. The tire sizes may or may not be enough to change your speedo also.

Does anyone have a definite answer for me. Maybe someone that works at a tire shop. I posted the same question on another board and I'm getting mixed answers.

Thanks

I can't even find the 305/45-18's in the Nitto website catalog, but they calculate out to 28.81" in diameter, about 3" larger than the stock tire size (25.65"). That's more than a "little taller sidewall". .

I run Hoosier QTP 28" slicks at the track, and they barely fit in the wheel openings on my Formula.... at the top end of the track (125+MPH) they grow enough to start rubbing on the wheel openings. A buddy of mine runs 29" ET Drags on his 1,125HP 97 30th SS convertible, and he had to have a body shop open up the wheel openings to fit them in. Are you sure you want to drive around with tires 3" larger than stock...... they are going to look like something for a monster truck.... IMHO.

Think about a tire almost an inch larger than these:

28" QTP's

I think you made a mistake when you said 175/40-17's on the front.... they would 3" smaller in diameter than a stock tire..... and there is no way a 175 would fit on a 9" or 9.5" wide ZR1 wheel...... I think you meant 275/40-17?
