Steering wheel question

Hey, i am a newbieto the board but i have a steering wheel question. My wife bought me a billet steering wheel for x-mas and i am just wondering how to go about chaging it so my air bag does not go off. Do I pull the fuses or what do i do? Any info would be appreiciated.

This is one area where it might be a good idea to read the factory manual. In summary, the power to the airbag DERM module needs to be disconnected for at least 20 minutes before you touch any part of the system. That's how long it takes the stored power to bleed off, after you disconnect the battery. Then you need to access the yellow connector at the base of the steering column, and disconnect that. Only then should you start disassembling the cover/airbag unit, removing the rotating contact assembly, etc. In general, is is recommended that you keep the airbag pointed away from your body while handling it.

The airbag shouldn't be active if the key is out of the ignition, I had to remove mine to switch my wheel, I just left the key out, removed the 2 screws and disconnected it and put it aside, didn't dissconnect the battery or anything, but I reused the airbag with my new wheel and i've had no problems, there's an airbag light on the dash, if your airbag has a loose connection it will light and i never saw it once. I don;t know if that's really the right way to do it but it worked.
