Removing Side Moldings?

I was looking at the pics of LT1 cars on ls1tech and noticed a few guys that had removed the molding, but my question before I attempt it is if I pull it off is that all tha has to be done, or are there holes to fill afterwords? I know that I'll have to get rid of all the sticky goo, but that no problem, I have time LOL

Heres a pic of what I'm talking about...

Just catch and edge and rip it off. I was standing close to the car, gave it a quick jerk and the adhesive came off w/ it. Nice and clean. No holes. Just stickey tape. I used seafoam to take the rest of the adhesive off.

Once I got the FT small piece off, I used that section to pry the other pieces off. Also used it as a 'chisel' to gently scrape the adhesive off.

That black line is only a pin stripe, BTW.

Use a hair dryer to soften the tape a little. It is easier to remove that way.

How is your guys paint looking where the moldings were? (and what color is your car?) My brother's Camaro's side moldings are off and it looks good so I'm considering doing it to mine. We bought his w/o the moldings on it so we didn't get to see if there was a difference in color where they used to be and then it had to be buffed or something. Just curious...

Mine came off pretty nice, but then found out that one side of my car was painted on the bottom half of the stripe... someone really sucked at color matching and just painted over the OEM paint. But even with that its hard to see and looks much better!

Thumbs up!

My paint was fine. No difference in color. BUT I have read about one guy on LS1tech that removed the moldings from his TA and had BAD discoloration. Almost grey on a white car. Apparently the car was repainted and they didn't remove the moldings when they painted it. They painted OVER the moldings.

Big difference to me. The paint was fine underneath. I used goo-gone and some fishing line behind the door ding guards to get the stuff started and it just peeled from there. Worst case you don't like it, put the stuff back on.....I think it looks much cleaner though w/out the stripping IMO

I have never liked molding on any car that I drive. But I used to have a '00 Grand Prix and if I would have taken the side moldings off of that it would have had about 6 holes that would have to be filled in and then painted. I just wanted to make sure that there wouldn't be any holes on the Z

I started to take mine off of my Z but I forgot to take my heat gun to my parents house so I'll finish it this weekend.
