Questions for those of you with painted calipers?

What all is involved in painting calipers?
What kind of paint needs to be used?
What kind of clear coat and primer?
Any other tips I need to know before trying to do this?

I painted my calipers red on my 97 Z. I bought the high heat temperature paint from Autozone. Since I dont own a floor jack I had to paint one caliper at a time. It was a pain in the *** to say the least but still effective. Anyways, I covered my car up with my car cover to protectfrom from overspray.

I first cleaned the caliper as good as I could with some old fashion break cleaner and a wire brush. After that was completed I taped off the areas of the caliper with masking tape that I didnt want sprayed. I then took a plastic bag and covered up the rotor. I applied the paint in thin even coats. I put on 3-4 coats on each caliper (Did all 4 calipers). I did not us a clear coat but I assume that would help prolong life.

With a lot of patience I completed all four calpers and they look great. I even bought some of the CAMARO caliper decals off ebay and it really made them stick out.

Hopefully this helps ya out. Happy Painting!!!

1) taking everything apart to do it and covering your fender wheels with news paper so you dont get over spray on it

2) I used charcole grille black paint for primer (homedepot)
and duplicolor high heat engine paint for color (My color is black)
and then duplicolor high heat engine clear coat

3) make sure you clean you calipers really well before you even attempt to paint them and don't let the paint dry completely when in the process of putting on the color and clear let each coat sit about 5 mins if it's really hot outside maybe 15 mins if its cooler

Also here's a more detailed walkthrough

I completely disassembled my calipers and did it the right way. I used 1,200 degree engine paint for both colors that I used. There are some pictures of my calipers in the link of my sig...2nd page of the motor album are where they can be found.
