paint or vinyl overlays

just got my new z, all black 94. im wanting to make the emblems, bowties, and the rear indention yellow. do you guys recommend removing and painting or buying overlays. if i paint, is it a pain to put the emblems back on and keep them lined up. also what kind of paint is durable. if i get vinyl ill definitely be getting brents. but im not good with stickers and stuff. sorry for all the questions, thanks ahead of time.

Sounds like you may just want to go with vinyl.
Since you just got the black one - you may decide after seeing it for a while that you want something different. It would be easier to take off the vinyl and put on a new color rather than the paint.

You said you weren't good with stickers and stuff - so just use some soapy water to put them with (get the area wet and soapy, then put on the decals) - that'll give you a minute or so to get them how you want them.

If you do decide to paint them - then here's how I would do the emblems (I wouldn't even think of painting the rear CAMARO lettering, you'll never get it to look quite right (unless you have serious painting skills - and you wouldn't be asking this question if you did ).
I would #1 - Sand them to rough them up just a bit, but not actually "scratch" - as in eat the plastic - them.
Then #2 - use some Zinc Rich primer - stuff sticks excellent to just about everything.
#3 - use your high quality paint of choice - high quality meaning not the Wal-Mart brand.
The problem lies here though - if you paint them - there is just about no way the colors are gonna match exactly from the decals (rear indention) to the paint. Just some thoughts, hope that helps you decide. Good luck with it.

I think getting the overlays would be the easiest way to go. You could always order 1 and see how you like it--Brent sells them cheap enough, so you wouldn't really be out a substantial amount of cash. I just ordered mine from Brent and should have them today or tomorrow!

I have ordered from Brent and can say that not only are they high quality... but they look great! I've got yellow overlays on my Black TA! For the price you won't find a better deal! PM me if you want to see some pics!

Later,

Mike

I too recommend the decals. Much easier IMO (as 94BlackBowtie hit the nail on the head), and like the rest said, you can always take them off. As long as you clean the surface real good, the decals will look great and last along time.

Check out Brent Franker' site:http://www.bfranker.badz28.com/vinyl/vinyl.htm

I got vinyl inserts, from another place, not Brant. I am very happy with how they look. I got black ones. Next time I will order from Brent, he seems to have a nice selection.

ArcticYT95TA,

Thanks man! I was kind of weary of yellow on black as well. I'm pleased! Next project is to paint the calipers!
