Paint color? Hood replacement?
Hi everyone!
This is my first time posting on these boards. I just bought my 2000 v6 camaro with t-tops last week. It only has 50,000 mi and is in fantastic shape. I do have to replace the hood though because of a minor dent. I am considering changing the entire color of the car from white to black when I have the hood replaced. Anyone have any opinions? I can't seem to find any sites that have a white and a black camaro next to each other for comparison. Also, anyone know of the most cost effective place to order an ss hood from?
Thanks!!
Tiffany

I wouldn't paint it black, white is a good color, infact I sort of regret painting my car after 2 years, 1. because of the money and 2. because Factory paint jobs hold up really well.
You can get a decent paint job with clear coat at a Macco for $1000 and it will even come with a 5 year warrenty garunteed not to peel, a good independent body shop will charge much much more than that. Infact money wise you would be better off selling your car and buing another that is already Black.
Infact Macco will only charge like $50 to paint a hood for you and probably only a few bucks to install it.
and just do your research before buying a hood and try to find out which ones fit good, if you buy the cheapest thing you can find it will most likely fit poorly and will not look good with gaps, it would be worth the couple of hundrred more to get a good quality hood, although a dark paint job like black would hide the hood gaps better than white.

Yeah after having both light (White & Silver) and dark (Dark Blue/Dark Maroon/Black) cars you DON'T want Black.... Dark colors always seem to look dirty unless they are freshly washed, and 10 minutes later they look dirty. White/light colors typically look clean until they are so dirty that the dirt is falling off...
So unless you wash your car once a day keep, the white. It will also be cheaper to install the hood or even paint it in general vs. changing the color.

If you want the car to look more aggressive, paint the roof, mirrors, and door handles black like Z28s were required to have from '93-'94. (I don't want to into a big paragraph, but Z28s didn't always have black door handles for some years and etc. which is why I'm specifically mentioning '93-'94.) It's a very good look.
Consider getting the SLP bowtie grill. It looks very, very good on the white '98-'02 Camaros.
If you don't already have dual exhaust, you might check craigslist and see if you can find factory Z28 exhaust for sale. With some work, an exhaust shop could get it to fit on your car.
