In the middle of shortening A4 shifter, need advice

The groove on the front and back of the shifter tube... What did you guys use to cut it? I've been using a cutting disc on the front one (which has been a PITA), and while it works, it leaves the bottom part rounded instead of squared off as I would like it. What did you guys use to cut those?

I used a dremel as well, but which bit were you using? The cutting wheels I have are about 1/2" in diameter, and they don't let me cut very precisely.
