ls1 to lt1 front end conversion
i see people have talked about going from an ls1 to the older lt1 style front end, but has anyone actually done it??
if so, any problems finding the needed brackets?
any hood clearance issues??
thanks

Re: ls1 to lt1 front end conversion
I'm pretty sure there would be a slight hood clearance issues. I wouldnt go with a stock hood if I did this conversion anyway. Actually i couldnt see myself going through the trouble. I'm sure it would be super easy to get the stuff needed.

Unfortunately the stock LT1 style hood will supposedly not clear the air intake box. I've heard that an Ultra Z hood "might" fix that problem, but as far as I'm concerned, that's an ugly hood.

Out of all honesty, the money it would cost to do the conversion, you could buy a nice Lt1. Seriously there is one in the classifieds right now for 3K with only 98K miles

Re: ls1 to lt1 front end conversion
Why do you guys keep saying buy the lt1 car? That's crazy. He likes the style. Didnt say anything about wanting an extra car. And everyone that said it isnt worth it take a second and think. He could sell his complete front and find a LT1 front in a junkyard. He should end up with a profit. The hood issue isnt that serious.

Re: ls1 to lt1 front end conversion
The only part you need to replace is the air intake box as far as I know. That would be MUCH simpler than buying an LT1 Camaro, and you'd retain your much better LS1.
I've seen one where the guy relocated the box to feed from his '96-'97 style SS hood. I'm sure that there is probably an aftermarket kit out there to take care of that problem just like he did it. I sure as heck know I wouldn't want to do custom work to relocate the thing, and I doubt you do either.
Look for a part to change the configuration, just try websites like slponline.com, summitracing.com and others.
It might even be possible to put the air intake piece from a stock LT1 on the LS1 to make it fit, but I'm definitely not sure. You could even try a Callaway "honker" air intake for the LT1 Camaros that I know 100% for sure fits the LS1s and will relocate the air intake. I'm not sure how it fits, but you could ask the guy that did it:

BTW on dfwls1 there was a 02 ss that they put a Lt1 front on, and yeah it can be done but then he decided to sell the car and noone wanted to buy it!
