How to polish fuel rail and intake

What is the best way to polish my fuel rail and top of my intake on a 1994 LT1 engine?

Re: How to polish fuel rail and intake

A cloth buff and some Tripoli(compound) works well on the fuel rail. The intake is gonna need something a little more aggressive to buff the fins. Eastwood company ( www.eastwoodco.com) sells all the compound you could think of. You would actually spend more time if you used a 120 grit cause it is TOO abrasive and then you would spend forever trying to get the grain out. I would start with a 320 grit bar and work up to a finer grit, always finishing off with the tripoli. I did a TPI intake, when I had my Iroc and I was going to do the whole intake. The top plenum was enuff for me. That is a LOT of work.

I used fine steel wool pad and wiped up and down till it shined then polished with mothers on the fuel rail. Now for the intake I think its a 5 to 10 step process. Cant help you with that one.

Define polish? Are we talking mirror finish or something shiny with a little grain in it.

No I wasn't looking for a mirror finish or anything just wanted to get a good shine on it.

Re: How to polish fuel rail and intake

Easy. Use a rubbing rag, something similar to the green scotch brite pads for washing dishes. Buff away. I work with stainless steel so I used a red rubbing rag and it put a light grain in it. I like the brushed look anyhow. I think a mirror finish would be too hard (or too time consuming)to maintain.
Unfortunately my corvette covers hide the fuel rail I didn't realize it till I stuck the cover on.

Something like this?

Only thing I've ever put on either the rails or the intake is Mothers.... the aluminum/metal polish to get the heavy oxidation off, then the "Incredible Biller Polish" for the mirror-like shine.

Re: How to polish fuel rail and intake

The first step is to pull them off,the next step is to take the pieces you want polished to someone that does it and the last step is to pick up your pieces, pay for them, and reinstall.

I wind up messing polishing up is why I say that.

Exactly what I use. Still don't know how to post pics, so if you want to see pics of my fuel rails, etc., please email or pm me.
Thanks!

This is one approach albeit very laborious and expensive. The procedure/products described by Injuneer will accomplish the same thing w/o removing anything. My fuel rails, including crossover, and intake look very similar (maybe better! J/K )to Injuneer's and I spent about an hour the first time I did them. Now it's about a 20 minute job to reshine (very easy to maintain even when car was a daily driver). To me the key is the products one uses. Mother's is not cheap, but works very well.

Re: How to polish fuel rail and intake

i just did mine yesterday and the mothers is awesome...

fuel rails i just took the mothers too and after 5 minutes i buffed and it looks like chrome....

the intake i took 1000 grit wet dry for about 10 minutes, then about 10 minutes of the mothers and it looks perfect...
