How much will a hood lower weight?

How much will an aftermarket fiberglass ws6 hood free up some weight? Just curious cause I was lookin at a Moore Performance hood. This is for a 97 Formula BTW. Also how much would it cost roughly for a shop to paint it black?

Not 100% sure on these numbers for your Firebird but it'll likely be a savings of around 20 lbs.

Having it painted black is good... typically "blending" of the fenders and front isn't necessary with black so the expense of having it painted will be much less. Prices vary too much by area and shop so it'll be best for you to just call around and get some quotes.

Good luck!

15-20 pounds isn't too bad Is there any way that when they do put the new one on they can package the old one up so I cuold possibly sell it to anyone that needs it? I just called some shops, they are quoting me 600-700 bucks just to PAINT it.

Re: How much will a hood lower weight?

My stock Z28 hood is the same weight as my OEM SS hood.

I weighed them.

Some friends have a body shop and have had a couple WS6 and Firehawk true GM hoods laying around. Id swear theyre heavier than my Z's stock hood!

GM fiberglass parts are heavy!!

My Glasstek 4" is a good 18-20lbs lighter than the flat stock hood though.

go to maaco for the paint, should only cost you around 250-400 bucks. Anywhere else will charge you 6-700 like you said.

Yeah, they aren't light, but they hold up great. My OEM SS hood is the same weight as my factory Z28 hood, down to the nearest 1/2 lb.

Re: How much will a hood lower weight?

Does anyone have any experiences with the weights of Moore Performance hoods? Are you sure Maaco is good? A few years ago my dad brought an 84 Trans Am in and they totally did a horrible job.

maaco has definately gotten alot better then they used to be. They even offer a clear coat with there cheapest paint job i think. But you can get a full paint job from them with 5 clear coats and there highest quality paint for around 1000 bucks. I dont know any place like that. From what I've seen they do a pretty good job too.
