Question Hood Vents?

Has anyone ever taken out the inner part of the hood vents? I was just wondering how different it would look (if at all).

Could it possibly help in any way?

Could it hurt?

I've seen the grills that MBA makes for the vents, but I was thinking of just taking
them out and leaving them open.

Let me know what your thoughts on this are!

Thanks, in advance!

E

I have mine set up as heat extractors. I don't have any pics of it tho
FYI:There is plastic behind those little grill things, it's all one solid piece.

If you pop them off from the back with a screwdriver. (Really easy) You will see that there is still hood behind them. If you wanted them open then you would have to cut the openings out. Even then I would put a grill over it b/c I think it would look like chit w/o one. I just took mine off and painted them white. I will try to dig up a pic.

It's hard to explain and I'll take pics later(hit a deer so my car is not exactly photogenic right now), but think 3000GT VR4...

i thought about this, but then i thought of how much water would come in. i have polished valve covers, and when water gets on them and they are hot it etches fast. for this reason i decided not to do it.

Oh yeah, I hadn't really thought about that. It doesn't really rain to much here, at least until yesterday, when I found myself having to by new blade refills.

I sure would like to see pics though, if anyone has any.

Thanks!

I've got a friend who did that to his 93 Camaro. He did put a wire mesh behind it and it does look good and he hadn't had any water problems with it. It's a daily driver so he has driven it in the rain before. Works well as a heat extractor (when you are sitting still)

Thanks man It's fully reversible. I like trying new stuff. I was pissed because I f'd up my SS hood when I hit a deer,
so when I was worried about engine temps about a month ago.... I tried this setup.

They definately do extract heat with this setup.

I will be posting a guide, but it's fairly simple, just hard to explain without pics to go along with it

pu12en12g have you ever had any problems with rain? And why do you have them lifted from the back? Why didn't you just keep the plastic part flush and cut the opening were the inserts went before (basically so it would look stock except instead of being fake hood scoops they would be real) I'm not bashing what ya did just curious why you did it that way and if it had anything to do with water. Very creative though!

poping just the black plastic out doesnt really do much. just blows air into the engine compartment. its too far away from the intake to be made functional. he probable did it that way so the air escapes like cowl hoods do, when u go fast the air goes towardst the back and out the vents. when the little black plastic is out u are just pullin air in the hood when u go fast and none gets out.
