Re: help with seats
I'm not 100% on this so it's more of something to ponder. The seat covers are made to cover the foam. I'm pretty sure if the seat covers are different, the contours of the foam will be too. If someone can correct me on this, please inform.

Re: help with seats
It's hard to tell, but the '93-'96 seat foam is a slightly different shape and a stiffer foam. The '97-'02 have spongey foam and are a little narrower or something. The difference is pretty slight, but I suppose it could be the same difference as being able to button the top button on a dress shirt and not being able to button it because it's too tight. I wouldn't try using seat covers for the wrong seat type. It might be too tight or too loose and look bad. Leatherseats.com can make the '93-'96 pattern to fit the '97-'02 foam I'm pretty sure.

Re: help with seats
Here you go, I uploaded some pics I have saved. Here's a comparison.
As you can see, the '93-'96 has more aggressive bolsters for the sides of your back, but the '97-'02 has more aggressive bolsters for your butt. They are definitely two different types of foam though. GM claimed that people complained about the stiffness of the foam so they switched to something squishy, and they complained that their butts would slide around on the relatively flat '93-'96 seats. As most people can tell you, squishy isn't better. I consider the seats in the '95 much more comfortable to my tall, skinny frame, even if I feel like I'm going to slide out of them. The shape of the '02 seats makes me feel a bit funny; I feel like the '95 seats are hugging my back, while the '02 is a little more like an inflatable pool chair I'm just leaning against. I guess the seat portion for my butt is slightly better in the '02, but I don't notice that as much as I do the way my back feels on the back portion.
You didn't ask, but since I'm on the subject, the leather was changed in '97 to something called Sierra Soft. I don't remember off the top of my head what the '94-'96 leather was, but it's a lot more durable. Sierra Soft Leather was designed to be really soft to the touch, almost buttery soft. I think a benefit to that is that it doesn't develop wrinkles like the '94-'96 leather. A lot of European cars and even my Pontiac Grand Prix GXP have leather that is heavily textured compared to both '94-'96 and '97-'02 leather. It's more durable and not very soft. Unless I'm mistaken, it's called Prado Leather. Some of the exported Camaros had it. Don't take this paragraph as fact though...
