Differences in wheels.

Well I went yesterday to pick up my SS rims, but needless to say the tires ended up being low profile tires. I forgot the exact brand, but I remember them saying F1 on them. Any bump I hit would throw my vehicle off way bad. I would be doing 50, small bump and the whole car would swerve. The day before I had the allignment done, tires balanced and mounted on my 16's. So the whole way up I had no problems. Switched and then the swerving occured. Is it the low profile tires doing this?? I had to pass on the deal because I didn't feel like swerving all over going 70 on the way home. Are there any 17 inch tires that will not do this?? I want to get the SS rims sooo bad. But if I can't find a decent tire that will not swerve, them I'm out of luck. Don't have to be low profile or anything, just for it to fit and give a decent ride like my stock ones. Price not high, but I can afford decent ones. Any ideas?? Thanks a lot!

you went from a 245 tire to a 275. thats a lot more rubber making contact with the ground, so that causes more movement. my wheel moves when I go over bumps and when i brake

mine did the samething when I went from 245's to 275's...I think its called "tramling" or something like that. My car pulls alittle when i brake and if i'm driving on part of a road that is slightly uneven.

thats the trade off you make when you go to wider low profile tires. They hold the road and handle better but they also like to grab every groove on the road and pull you around. Breaking was real fun back when I had my stock brakes with warped front rotors. I had to make sure i had a good hold on the wheel if I had to slam on the brakes. Id be pulled into the next lan if i wasnt paying attention.

So there are no regular tires I could get without the pulling and shaking Don't have to be low profile or anything. Just as long as they fit. If a normal SS came with these rims brand new with the stock tires, do they experience this???

Aaaah, I never knew that. I went from 255s to 275s recently and have noticed the same thing happening.

Were your 255's on 17 inch rims Jilly if you don't mind me asking. Or were they on 16's? Thanks!

it has nothing to do with the tire brand etc, its all in the width of it because it makes more road contact. you get used to it

Were you having the same problems as I mentioned on my first post, or was it just normal driving?? Thanks again. Also, does lowering the pressure them, say 28 psi, make a difference in anything?? I appreciate everybodies help

Yes, the exact same thing was/is happening to me. I thought maybe it was because my alignment was off. I still think that might be it, but what you described sounds just like what my car is doing.

I have no idea about what lowering the pressure would do.

lowering the pressure wont do anything to help with this. it is just the width of the tire grabbing the road better and getting into ruts and grooves more/ the lower profile making the ride harsh.
