Question Cleaning intake and alternator...

My intake and alternator look terrible, the metal is all oxidized or something. What is the best way to remove this? I've tried engine cleaners and steel wool, but nothing really works. Any suggestions are appreciated.

get some 220 grit sand paper and sand it. Follow up with some steel wool.
