can i paint over chrome
hey guys,
i picked up a set of those cheap chrome SS rims from that guy in troy this week.
the actual face of the rims are in perfect shape... but the crevass and places like where the valve stem go are pitting... i've scraped off the pitting as good as i can and now more loose chrome is comming off..
i wanted to paint these areas black.... how should i prep?
1500 wet sand and wax and grease it... and gloss black?

This is not a permanant fix, as if the chrome has failed and is pitted, begining to peel, you will never be able to stop it or featheredge the peeling chrome. You could sand it with 600 wet, mask and paint, it will look ok for a little while. If you want to try and make it last a little longer, I would sand it with some 180, prime it with a good catylized primer(I recommend Valspar 90B060), sand with 600, and paint. That would fill some of the pitting and hold the peeling down.
