Anyone have their hood struts chromed?

Anyone have their hood struts chromed?

Is it possible? if yes, is ther any diassembly that must take place on the strut prior to giving them to a chromer? approx price? Thnx. -Jeff

i stripped the paint and polished mine

YES. And it will cost about $20-25 apiece I would bet. I had mine done so long ago, and in a lot so I don't know how much for each one.

ah come on ya got to post the pics, how long did it take to polish and how did they look? we need pics, please. I painted mine orange to brighten things up. polished would look cool.

sorry , i have no way to load pics, no scanner or digital camera. but i got a polishing kit at a flea market with like 15 different grits of sandpaper . first i took the struts off and took stripped the paint off with a wire wheel on my grinder , then i worked my way from roughest grit all the way down to the finest , then took metal polish and wiped them down . it prolly took me 2 hours per strut , but you can do it as quick as you want but the more time you spend on them the better they look.

no problem. hey on your webpage i noticed you have a pic that says by lake michigan? was it taken in chicago ? also is that your silver targa top vette as well ? b/c i have a couple questions if it is!

whether chrome or nickel?

Does the chroming/nickel process hurt the hood strut? Can the gas in the strut endure the coating process?

not sure. my mistake, thought you were talking about the hinges. I would find out exactly how the process works. Chrome is a dipping, and electrous-nickle is kinda like powerder coating. You could do either, but you most likly need to find someone to take them apart and rebuild them.
